PRobably not a lot of help due to cost and avilability, but all I know of are the Stuabaker and Ford's already mentioned from teh 50's and 60's, I think there was an early post war MG that used them, the only others I know if are Konigsegge who use Rotrax centrafugals, but you might have a better chance junk yard picking one from a 50/60' Stude than finding a Kongsegge!

I thought so too. But rob proved me wrong. Id have to build all new swap parts, and thats a nope. Same with the vvt 3500.

So, not a ton to be gained, but some as a bolt in. Cam, compression and porting give more.

Bummer.

I forget what your gearing is like currently... where does 2nd end?  An extra ~15-20% more speed due to extra RPM can come in really nice.

Junkyard option: HX35 from a 5.9 Cummins with the bigger (16-22cm) back housing might be a good cheap fit for the 3.5L. The much smaller 9cm housings on the HY35 spool well on 2.0L engines and can make close to 450-500whp on E85.

Are you trying to do this on challenge budget still or just challenge style budget?

Didn't Mercedes mount the Roots-type blower for their 4-cylinder Kompressor cars remotely like what you're talking about?  The ducting would be a bit more complex but not a lot...

The gearing is stupid short. 2nd is done by 35-40 mph. Car honestly needs regeared, but the 3.63 is proving difficult to get inexpensive.

Racetruckron: cheap cheap. Every penny spent on miata is a penny taken from the amc. Biggest concern is spool. Need more torque at lower rpm in third gear.

Wouldn't a turbo of the right kind/size/etc be better to build torque in low/mid RPM's vs. a supercharger?

No post war production MGs with factory super charge, only record breakers. There were several brands used pre-war, but all in production cars were positive displacement, not centrifugal.

You know, there really should be some kind of bad idea leader board  for the forum-- things like BiTurbo Concours restorations, etc.  Like Fezzini's "Classic Blunders"-- "Never get into a land war in Asia!"

With Hagerty's having just purchased Concours de LeMons, nay be they should sponsor it.

Wasn't on this board but knew a guy trying to put two of them on his vr6. I believe he never finished and is now bankrupt and homeless (really).

Unless you are using a positive displacement sc you will get better low end with a turbo sized accordingly. A centrifugal sc is like having a large-ish turbo but with not as much power.

I think Jaguar did the same thing on at least one of their supercharged cars in the 90s or early 2000s.  Eaton blower set off to the side and ducted to the intake.

I think it might have been either an early 2000's XJR or XKR?

Now i think about it the Mercedes Benz C230 also had one "kompressor" which was a clutched unit that sat nearly under the engine. Swap the clutch out with a new machined pulley and it would be another option for a remote mount.

It was defintiely an XJR, I just can't remember if it was the 90s 6 cylinder one, the following V8 one or both.

3800 was a blow down. May be easier to grab a Thunderchicken M90 from a junkyard since it would have the remote mount outlet manifold already done for you.

If i can find them, i have photos of a 3800 M62 with a homebrew outlet manifold bolted to a Ford Probe GT. It was ugly as all sin but the car had some pretty good power. Biggest issue was the crappy homebrew gasket my buddy kept making to try to keep it sealed.

This is a full assembly on Ebay for the blower with the manifolds already attached.

you can find them cheaper on facebook marketplace or junkyards.

I am pretty sure he's right, though.

Most modern supercharged setups (read: Audi) have the blower in the valley, blowing UP into a water/air intercooler on either side.

This does not help you much since the valley in a Chevy 60 degree is about two fingers wide, but it is interesting all the same...

Google says its either an Eaton M62 or M45. Youd have to search around the Eaton website for the exact dimensons for the OE applications.

Not suitable - they were all built with integral manifolds for the cars they fit.

If you want a stand alone supercharger, the Ecotec LSJ is a possible source.  But remember that they are only good for feeding a 2.0 engine.

Correct.  Studes had them and so did some Ford Y-blocks if you knew how to talk to your dealer.  And interestingly they were legal in NASCAR for a short time.  '57 if I remember correctly.  Smokey Yunick tells some interesting tales about them in his 1100 page book 'Best Damn Garage in Town' which alternates between highly interesting and entertaining to unreadable drivel.
