Is there a way to check the seal on this kind of water pump assuming it isn't leaking? It's Aisin and was last installed using orange RTV but I don't know if it's original or how many miles might be on it.

If it's not leaking, the seal is good.
The "seal" isn't actually a lip seal, it's just two flat pieces of plastic rubbing against each other. The most you can really do is feel the bearing for roughness and play. If there is any play at all, change it. If there is any roughness ("indexing" like a bad headset bearing on a bicycle) then change it.
Thank you. There is no wobble and it isn't stuck so that sounds ok. Mazda embossed coolant gaskets + Permatex sealant for the win.
