Anyone seen this before? And what is the cause and more importantly what is the fix? It is leaking transmission fluit at an alarming rate.

Yes it only has 30K on it. The customer only uses it every now and then. It is in perfect shape other then the broken transmission tail housing.
Put a new one on with a new gasket and seal. Looks like an overtorqued bolt and cracked into the housing. Clearly by the rust and scale this vehicle just sits around and not in a good environment.

Any time I have seen this, it was a front U-joint binding.
Or a badly out of balance driveshaft.
Good suggestions so far. Also, based on the amount of rust, that it could have corrosion someplace that has grown and pushed so hard its cracked the aluminum.
This is MA. It I what we consider to be rust free. Seriously the rust you are seeing is minor. Very light surface rust. It is not scaling or anything.
I did more searching and others mentioned the drive shaft as a cause. Since it will be comming out anyway I will replace the u joints as they are cheep. Should I send it out to be balanced as well?
I would at least look for evidence that the shaft has been hit. Ask the customer if any high speed vibrations were noticed.
The real question is can the tail housing be replaced in the Vehical or does the trans have to come out?
I can get at it easy enough but what I don't know is if the trans has to come apart to get the tail housing off or is it just simply a bolt off/on deal with no other disassembly needed.
Wonder if you could locknstitch it? I remember seeing something about it a few years ago.

I can be done in vehicle.
