Toyota Century transmission: A340E
Bell housing and torque converter unique to 5V-EU - already checked. My thoughts are to buy this, and have the importer just send me the bellhousing, and torque converter (MUCH less transportation costs!!) And then source an A340E here in the states.
Can I do this???
looks like according to wiki the only different version of the a340e is the one that came in OEM with 2JZ-GTE twin turbocharged engines only
the rest seem to be the same minus bellhousing/tc
so looks like 2wd trans are the same sans the ones I listed above. The 4wd ones are different but you likely arnt interested in those anyway. Looks like any AW4 from a 2wd jeep would work as well if you need different gearing. you are going to have to figure out which one has the gearing you need though.
I seem to recall somebody doing a 2J into an XJ using a Lexus SC300 bellhousing on the Jeep AW4.
In reply to Daylan C :
the aw4 and the a340e is basically the same transmission.

You know that. I know that. I wonder if all the Jeep/Toyota feud people know that.

yes. the issue is the rear tail housing and which drop transfer case they are wanting to use.
my only concern at this point is if Toyota did anything special to the Century version, as the car is their flagship model, and having custom valve body wouldn't be out of the question. The peak power on the stock engine was 4400, so it wouldn't surprise me to find its designed to shift differently then others.....???
