On Facebook, that is. We post articles, videos, updates from the garage, and event coverage. If you don't like GRM's Facebook Page, you really should.

I dong "GET" the whole FB "Like" thing when it comes to business. I realize that social media mandates that I should "GET" this, but I am busy using my brain for other things. Like typing silly post on GRM!

Amen Brother!!
To bring a music reference to this, the band Stryper put out an album in 2013 (they were pretty big during mid 80's, for you youngsters...). They had some crazy number of social media likes, FB or twitter, or something, no clue, but they had lot's and lot's of "followers".
They had sold 10,000 albums at the time. That's not a lot. There are surely some mitigating factors (the genre is not at all popular these days), but the thought was that boat loads of "followers" should translate a little better than that.
I too wonder about the efficacy of social media and sales... (Btw, if you're a classic metal fan, it's a great album, really good songs - yes, I AM that old... ugh).
Did you know 10% of all Facebook accounts are fake (so about 83 million)?
Hot tip... be like all the clever kids and just script up a 100k fake FB members that like you if it's how you get some sort of BS rating that advertisers care about.

Facebook is useful to businesses because it is a very easy way to get a "web presence".
For a business that already has a web presence, well, Facebook is of course a bit of "fad" but it also allows for a more convenient way to "push" information (which might otherwise be done with mailing lists).
So, if you don't want info pushed to you, and you are aware of the GRM website (I suspect you are ) there is little need for Facebook.
In reply to OldGray320i:Being old enough to like heavy metal isn't old. That's young! I was too old for the Beatles. That is old!

Why do you old guys get off on being Luddites?
Baaah, where's my soup?
Actually, there's a ton of people on Facebook, so we use it as another way to share cool car content. Sadly we don't get paid in Likes.
I'm often amused that the same subject matter will get posted both her and on FB. On the forums, maybe 20 comments. On FB - 200.
I understand there actually is a way to get paid for FB page views/likes/etc. Apparently if you get enough views you can start getting a percentage of ad revenue connected to your page. Or something like that... Similar to making money off YouTube. I'm an admin for our mtn bike team page, so we get weekly reports on number of views, likes, and so on.

That we can only deliver if you're here in the office.
"Do you like us?"
Well, I'm starting to like you. But It's really more of a lust thing... Just being honest ;-)
My 10 year old son told his 27 year old sister in-law, "You don't have to like me, I'm not a Facebook status."
I almost had heart failure I was laughing so hard.
I follow GRM on facebook. It’s a great way to get updated content and get a company’s name out there. I think facebook is a useful tool to reach a greater audience that might not frequent the website or forum.
Ideally speaking, your different media presences should have different content to draw readers in. The magazine is perfect for competent, fleshed-out content and fun stories in "long-read" format. The forum is perfect for discussions on just about everything in "mid-read" doses. Honestly, I think the Facebook feed should appeal to an even lower common denominator; while links to articles are great, the image macro is the "content" and it better be meme-tastic or grab my 14-year-old attention span. Do that and you'll get shared like George Takei if he was a carnut. Those shares = links to the real content.

Nicely said and very true. Plus groveling for Facebook action is so humiliating.
You'll need to log in to post.
