Toyota recently unveiled the new Nightshade edition for its 2024 Toyota Corolla. It's more black on a black car. The white Nightshade version offers a balance. No black wheels, however - bronze instead. What are your thoughts? Is there such a thing as too much black on a car?
Not a fan of black cars at all. Black hides all the detail.
I really don't like all-black wheels. They're just shapeless round blobs in the wheel arches.
The white one with the black cap works OK, because the white lets you see the shadow lines and modeling of the main bodywork.
The black on the rest of the body work helps blend in the gaping maw that Toyota's designers stuck on the front of this car.
Black on black on black sucks. Black wheels suck. Guys who like black on black always tint their tail lights black, which is a profoundly clear exhibition of their iq.
The answer is none. None more black.

Blacked-out wheels only don't look terrible on a brightly-colored car...even then, they don't exactly look good either. I hope to repaint my Samurai's wheels to a medium-gray color sometime to address that issue.
As long as the wheels aren't black its all good in my book. But as a kid who came of age in the late 80's I have a thing for monochrome cars.
No, there is no such thing as too much black.
What there is are cars that don't look good in black or in dark colors.
The Corolla is one of those, because it has a lot of hard edges, scallops, and narrow details to it that are simply obscured by black paint and black trim, transitions between features are blending by a black-on-black treatment such that it becomes a rather amorphous blob.
By contrast, let's consider a black-on-black Mercedes C63 AMG for a moment. That's a car that looks stunning in all black. Because it's mostly made up of curves and the transitions between body and openings are wide. The Merc has a slatted grill with lots of space between the slats, whereas the Corolla has an eggcrate that looks like a piece of window screen. When you swap the Corolla to a white-on-black treatment, the grill suddenly 'pops', because the transitions between body and grill are sharp and defined and it's no longer just a boring radiator cover.
Be sure to spray paint your tail lights.
Even the best looking cars still only look 'good' (at best) from 10 feet a away while parked in good light when blacked out.

Same. De-chroming and blacking out trim is still a good look in my eyes. Not on every car, of course.
And only idiots tint lights of any kind.

When we bought my ex-wife's '15 Mazda 6, we did the "blackout package" on a black car. Black wheels, dark tint, black emblems, etc.
A big sedan like that looked awesome.

"I swear, our sales manager must think he's Hotblack Desiato, because nearly every shipment we get of new vehicles comes with at least two vehicles that he options out with black paint, black interior, black wheels, black lugnuts, black grille, black striping, black emblems, black lettering, black running boards and black exhaust tips. Congratulations, you've spec'd out a rolling void. As I'm installing every accessory, I'm thinking "Wow, this looked so much better before I started this process." Black-out trim on a white or bright red vehicle looks pretty great. But on a black vehicle, it's just absurdity. The best is how the new trucks have a giant CHEVROLET stamped in the tailgate, and there's a decal package that overlays a gloss black decal in the stamping. Again, looks good on a white or red truck. But he was optioning that on black trucks, so you were placing a gloss black decal inside the stamping over gloss black paint. The difference was literally imperceptible. We stopped installing them for a while just to even see if sales noticed. They didn't. Finally our service manager told him "Hey, we haven't even been installing those for a couple weeks and you haven't noticed, so maybe stop ordering that?" "
My Merc is a triple black car. There is this thing called sunlight. The car gets so hot that you can not open a window and put your arm on the sill as it gets so hot. The interior will cook you if it is left sitting in the sun and with the entire interior of the car heat-soaked the AC takes half an hour to bring things back to something less than the surface of the sun.
Black cars are excellent on paper but living with one can really suck.
Very few cars look good with the black on black on black on black treatment. If I had a corolla I would want that thing vibrant
Black cars get way too hot.
Black wheels only work on a white car.
Dashboards should generally be black for reflectivity issues.
A black car should not have black wheels or an all-black interior.
Emblems shouldn't be blacked out on a black car.
I feel like we should have more white roofs, but the styling for a white roof without the main body color being white is difficult.

That was the first thing I thought of when I read the title.
The key to fashion, is contrast, and it also applies to cars, more or less. So black on black on black, usually doesn't work. One exception is possibly the C7 I saw that was all blacked out. It looked wicked. My white Swift GT had white wheels and it worked. My current car is white and has dark grey wheels. It works but isn't standing up well, and since I have access to blast and spray booths, and the best semi gloss black I've ever seen, they're going to be painted black. I expect it will look very good. Sorry Duke.
Now, to answer the original question. Who cares? It's a Toyota.
Why not call them the Blackhawk and Whitehawk again?

Nah, triple black looks good on some cars. Some cars can't be helped no matter what color they are.

I thought about adding AMG Mercedes as the exception, because I think that the idea probably originated with them... but both of those cars would look better if the edges of the rims were polished.
