Dropping Christmas bonuses in favor of a jelly-of-the-month club subscription may have looked good to the board, but it didn’t quite fly with the rest of the company.
See also Nissan’s Z Nismo.
On paper, the Nismo version of Nissan’s newest Z looks like it should compete a…

I'm not sure I would pull the trigger now, but maybe some depreciation would make the new Z a little more attractive–at least in my eyes.
If I wanted to shave 2 seconds from my Elantra N, I could step up to a Civic Type R for an additional $10K. To shave 3 seconds, I can spend double for a Dark Horse, a car that is 1000% more desirable than the Nismo. To shave 4 seconds, I can buy a Supra for $5k less than that. The Z makes no sense.
"like so many things that look good on paper, in the harsh light of the real world, Nissan may still have some work to do"
I feel like this sums up all things Z-car for the last 20(?)-ish years now. The Nismo versions have been cosplaying track ready cars for a long time now and their price point is out of touch with their actual capabilities.

Every time I read these articles I am reminded of how incredibly cheap I am; 65K I don't think so.
The reality is most people buying one won't notice the steering/vague turn in. I recall several years back driving an M4 on track and the steering was horrible; the owner a reasonably good driver really didn't notice.
Thankfully GRM tests these things; so those of who do notice won't find out after we buy the car.

Does it feel like a few mods could really unlock its potential? Like could it punch above its weight in the Sport or Tuner TT category?
Also: you have 'T3' twice in your track map. I think one of them is suppose to be 'T8'.
3,700lbs and an automatic transmission is not what I would buy a Nismo Z for. Especially for the asking price.
I really want to love these cars.

I'm with you - that orange retro one is cool but sticker starts at $59,999?
It was slightly faster than the new BMW M2 at VIR per Car and Driver if I remember right. That's something at least.
Sad thing is, it costs more too.

Given the slow sales of the Z it's easy to find certain models with no additional dealer markup. Same maybe or soon for the NISMO. Not sure what aspects of Z can be altered via alignment. Although it can't make up for lost HP we know some cars gain more from a good alignment than others. I would venture to guess the Z may be more affordable to maintain once out of warranty compared to BMW/Supra. Still hope for additional refinement and performance from Z Honda.

I see a lot of them on auto trader too. I don't see many Supras, which cost more. The GR86 isn't a direct competition, but they too seem be very scarce on the ground. Zs look to be say 25% more expensive than a BRZ, or similar money to a Mustang GT. I could see Z becoming more popular.
Edit: It sounds like the way to go is buy the base Z and hit the aftermarket to improve the deficits in suspension tires, coolers, etc.
