I had a similar thought. It would be cool to build a Challenge car that would be eligible for the RoG as well.

I suspect anything worthy of time and money would be out of GRM price range. Most every thing else has gone back to the Earth in 80+ years.

I suspect that Model A's are at the price point where they cost more to restore than they are worth, so money is better spent buying one in the condition that you want.
I've looked for Model As before, and I was really only looking for the body; a decent frame would be an added bonus. Everything else would be updated anyways...

I know the prices are cheap, but they are in Cali. Just FYI.I'd love a truck, but I don't think I'd fit in the cab very well. Farmers were skinny back then.

Holy crap, that Jeepster is so cool as-is.
In reply to Woody:
Talked to my Step Dad this morning, he only has trucks and AA's left. He does have a lot of friends with original A's and one of which is for sale in your price range. Body and chassis only, and he thought it may have been a Phaeton. He's checking it out. Also, if you need any A parts or flathead V8 stuff, he's well stocked with them in the field and barn. LOTS of V8's! He said the RoG sounded really cool.
I have nothing useful for you Woody except: http://www.365daysofa.com/
I would love to DD an A for a year, just because it's legal
Seeing as this will be a hot rod after all, which I interpret as "body alterations ok" could you stretch a truck cab for the modern American?

They actually want pre 35.

Love the idea, but it's much too modern of a concept for this venue.

Tell me more about these People..
Do any of these people have a very rough 4 door?
In reply to nocones: I'm still getting the leads... so far I've found a complete truck minus engine for ~$2500, and I believe I know where a 7-window sedan is, but still need to get the price. I found a very nice(in a 1990's billet sort of way) fiberglass 3-window, but he's wanting $30-large lol. I know a couple guys with stashes of parts too, but I'm not sure if they're willing to let go of anything yet.
Looking to re-body the Midget?
I live in Western Ky. If you find anything this direction I could possibly take a look at it for you and if you buy it see that you have a place to stay and a good meal.
Maybe a spare truck, trailer and tools.
Just heard back on the '28 7-window sedan. He'll sell it for $6500 minus drivetrain. He's asking $7k complete, so not much savings there. Still have a few other leads...
Woody - are you set on an A, or would a T be a possibility? I know a guy with a few of those as well.
My Dad has a model A 2 door Sedan in his basement that he's talked about selling. If you're looking for a bargain, this won't be your deal. I'm sure he paid real money for it, but it's restoration-worthy. Like I say...he talked about maybe selling it (when he dragged home a '41 Super Deluxe 2 door sedan that I think he'll be more interested in). I'll ask him about it next time we talk.

Woody, have you checked out www.trinketsandjunk.com yet? They have a few on there, and some are around your price range. Specifically, this 1929 Tudor is pretty much what you need and well within your budget.

Thanks for the offer! I love this place...

Ah, but I do want one with a chassis...
And, while I do like T's, a T won't cut it for this project.

Yeah, doesn't sound like this is going to be the one.
You can actually pick up a complete, older amateur restoration for about six grand. That would be the smart thing for me to do, but no one has ever accused me of such nonsense.
Just a question, but does it HAVE to be a model A chassis. I understand that the Model A has a huge aftermarket, and that it's nice to stick a Ford in a Ford. But if you want a functional vintage chassis, that is dirt cheap and comes with good hydraulic brakes from the factory, I would look into finding a late 30's Dodge frame or something like that.
