But then again it (and I) would have to be in California. But that brings up the question:

When you give your car for "testing" to a company like that do you get to keep all the goodies they throw at it? if so, who's to say you even WANT all the goodies they throw at it? How the heck does stuff like this work?

I've done it twice. Once was for a company that designed an intake, they drilled a hole into my exhaust manifold for testing purposes. I received an intake for my troubles. It's worth even more than original retail now as the company is no longer in business. The other time was when I left my car with a place for a week while I was out of state, they designed a header and y-pipe and I got to keep those as well. Put a hundred or two miles on my car though, wasn't too happy with that.

Would I do it again? Maybe.

Depends on the company. I'd let Hotchkis and Wilwood both have my Javelin, based upon what they did with people I know. A small start-up company though? No way, I've known way too many people who got burned.

K&N wanted one of my cars once, but only for the airbox (stock replacement filter). Wasn't worth it, so I didn't do it.

I would. I forgot who it was here doing MSPNP's but the suggestion of C4 vette came up at the same time the clutch master/slave/line took a dump on mine. I would have gladly let them do it to my car then (and now) but timing was off and now it's not stock. So...... I guess the stars were not aligned for me then.

I'd kill for a reputable suspension company to use the Forte for suspension work.....

Well, I sent them an e-mail I figure if they're up for a Hungarian vacation, I'm up for letting them tinker with my car.

Although I get the feeling this will end up like the time I applied for a job at Ferrari... They were surprisingly polite when they said "no stinking way".

That would be me... how not stock is it now?

My car was used to develop the Spec Miata exhaust that MBS has for a 1.8NA. I got to keep the exhaust. Since the 1.6 is slightly different, I arranged for a friend to bring his in. A few hours on a lift, and he got one for his track car. Nice and quiet at idle, good and loud around 4K. I would do it again, but I would want to know if they would be driving the car, and if so, how many miles, sort of driving, etc.

Just watch those Flyin Miata guys. They'll ruin your perfectly good Miata by stuffing a V8 in it. What jerks!

Did I say Jerks? I meant Perpetuators of Awesome. Also change "ruin" to "awesome" heh.

However, I would take a shop's offer to experiment on your car with a grain of rice as you may end up with something cool or you could get Hennesey'd.

you mean you might find a video of your car going 200mph on a Texas toll road?

So far I've done well enough buying the cars I build parts for however so far everything we work on is pretty cheap.

Before they take the parts away and put them on someone else's car.

Well, I got my reply from Hotchkis today... It says "Thank you for your offer, but it looks like we have some lined up already."

Wait... you mean there's more than one mid-60's Impala in southern California!?! How long has this been going on?!

I bought one of the first A5 VW rabbits in Oregon . Techtonics wanted to use it to design the exhaust for production. They said they would need it for two weeks and would have to dyno it 20 times and put 500 miles on the car, but for my trouble I would get the exhaust system for 60% of retail. I said no thanks.

Cam swap, no EGR, no AIR pump, miniram instead of the TPI, compression bump to 10.47:1 (up from 9.5:1 new and close to 8:1 at tear down) and no 9th injector. Cam isn't crazy or anything, correctly tuned it should see 300-350 at the rear wheels on a dyno. fairly mild.

I loaned MAPerformance my ms3 to prototype a cat delete pipe. When they found out how long they could have it for, it came back with a free port job on the intake mani as well. Picked up 30 horse, 400rpm sooner spool for the price of me storing my car for free in their garage for the winter!

I also got a free EBCS from Grimmspeed for letting them test fit it on my car that took like, an hour, and there was awesome subaru stuff to look at the whole time.
