Ken Block is at it again, shredding some insane Chinese mountain road in his 900hp AWD F-100. I enjoyed this much more than Gymkhana 10, because honestly, Gymkhana 10 just felt like a waiting game for me until the Hoonitruck showed up. There were cool bits, but I really just wanted to see this thing in action after watching the Build Biology on it. So 8 minutes of this thing brapping its way along some road that is way too small to fit a widebody F-100 is perfect for me.
Watched it yesterday, its a good video to watch

I'd like to jam on that road with my 245whp Miata, but something tells me that normally that road is probably crammed with slow-moving overloaded trucks.

Nick, if you ever want that experience go to japan. Rent a GT86 from toyota in Hakone-Yumoto station. It's a fifteen minute drive to Hakone Skyline road. The toll is about 5$. It's a private road, no laws. No pedestrians. No cyclists. Watch for motorcycles though. And if you get passed by an old dude smoking a cigarette in a blue Impreza, don't even try.

That is in the talks. A couple of my friends want to go to Japan and kind of have a 5 year plan to go because they are otaku. I mentioned I would like to go, both for that and the car culture, and they said they'd welcome me joining them. And that very day Jalopnik posted an article about a place that rents out fun cars, including a Stagea RS260. Jamming around the Japanese countryside with two of my best friends in a Stagea seems like a pretty fun trip.

Hoonigan did a behind the scenes of this vid two days ago. The road was busses every 50 feet going both directions. Kinda mesmerizing like a trail of ants.
No offense to sport compact fans, but imho the hoonicorn and hoonitruck are 1,000,000 times cooler than the boost buggies that preceded them.

I started watching that video but I haven't got a chance to finish it. It was interesting to hear Ken talking about how the tires are specially made with the tread pattern from a Toyo ~500tw regular tire but with R888R rubber compound.

Also sketchy to hear him talk about how his practice runs were on cold slick concrete, and the actual runs would be on grooved, grippy asphalt. Night and day between his practice runs. That road is not the time to figure out "where's the grip?"
In reply to NickD :
For starters, that custom-built truck has 914 bhp, and it’s no heavyweight off-roader so you better believe this thing is stupid fast. Controlling it on a wide-open road is one thing, but this stretch of pavement is obviously far from being wide open. Piloting a vehicle of even modest performance to its limits up this mountain requires some courage, never mind careening sideways in something with the dimensions of a full-size pickup. And while there are concrete barriers along the edges, we suspect they’re of little consequence when zipping along at speed. They would probably save the day for small mistakes, but any large crash could easily send the Hoonitruck flipping over top and down the mountain.

While I appreciate the engineering that went into that truck, I'd rather listen to a Sthil blower cleaning the leaves off my parking lot.
What a horrible sounding machine.
Either there is something about the composition of that road's paving so it doesn't take rubber marks, or he didn't do as many practice runs as in most of his previous videos - you can see a few marks from previous runs, but usually there are tons more of them.
I agree it's not a very good sounding engine.
Apparently I missed Climbkhana 1. I love me some Hoonitruck so I know what I'm doing tonight...
Who the berkeley is Ken Block?
Suffering from Gymkhana fatigue.

Yeah, but I think it’s cool that they didn’t just do another V8.

Hokey driving styles and ancient Corollas are no match for a good WRX by your side, kid.

Climbkhana 1 is when he fires the Hoonicorn (the Mustang) up Pikes Peak.

I love the engineering they put into it. I even love the engine tech. I would love to take it for a spin. But I would also sacrifice a lot of HP to put mufflers on it so I didn't have to listen to it.
Unfortunately the Bro Country guys around here are putting exhaust kits and straight pipes on every eco boost F150 they can get their hands on. So I get to listen to that crap on a regular basis.
