About 1500 miles after getting Iglaaq the Eurovan back on the road, I started getting light grumbley noises when accelerating. By 2000 miles the RF outer cv joint started clicking on turns, getting worse fast. I was mad because these were brand-new joints on both axles. So figuring that one bad new CV meant the other wasn't good, i ordered a new pair and waited a bit since they were out of stock nationwide. I pulled the RF first and saw this:
Here I has assumed that the grease on the inside of the joint meant that they had actually been packed like the package said. Nope, 'twas just a schmear and the joint failed. Kind of amazed it did so well, actually.
Opening the LF boot showed plenty of grease and neither rust nor wear.
Lesson learned - next time I'll glove up and, umm grease the balls, regardless of claims.
