So, i got the next challenge car today. So far budget is zero. For damn good reason.
Im thinking that i MAY be able to use this as a fiberglass mold. My general plan is to add a few inches somewhere for legroom, chop the top, and put it on a tube frame with some stupid long control arms, stick axle, high compression vy and flappy paddles.
So, step one: the beginning that i need to turn into something useful as a body.

Any ideas? Places to start? How to guide?
Yes. 31 pickup. I think. At least the back wall was....
Front is model a. Thats all i got there....
There was a rust free stock firewall in tbe pile we dug out from under the brush back in the woods.
Other than that, this was the best of the lot.
Oh, and depending on how it turns out, may be one lap car as well....

Other than sheer awesome points, ehy steel instead of fiberglass?
In reply to Dusterbd13:
Free was a damn good price for that! From what friends have told me that should be about $300-$500 worth.
Really? I feel like I overpaid.
There isn't more than 6 continuous square inches without major rust through.
There is also a straight front axle in the woods...
Van a straight front axle turn well?

Yes it can. It'll be a bit disadvantaged on rough pavement, but on anything smooth-ish, a well set up straight axle in the front can turn just fine.
And being that you don't have to worry about losing camber to body roll, you can sometimes strike a better suspension stiffness vs camber vs tire wear vs grip compromise.

If you need to recess that firewall to make room for a V8, you can section in an old wheelbarrow.
Find any cheap SC300s on Craigslist yet?
Nope. Ain't even looked on Craigslist. Like i said, body first. Tube frame built to match.then....
I seem to have my best ideas while I am sleeping. For tge back panel, wy though was to make a skeleton from plywood lime you would whe. Buildi g a metal body. A sheetmetal buck, if you will.
Cover the buck with tinfoil or masking tape. Tgen, form a layer of chicken wire fence Riund thw form in the exact shape of the cab qall. Fibreglass a buch.
Same for the roof.
Why wouldn't this work?

Should work, but sheet metal seems lighter and cheap at that point.
Why the chicken wire?

Ive bern watching his thread. Awesome stuff, but not what is in my head.
it looks like its a cabin for children. I don't think I could fit my knee to toe in that space...

I had a 29 roadster pickup fir a little bit. They are not as cramped as theylook.
But this one will he getting some length added to it fir better ergonomics. And legroom.
So, seems lije my sheetmetal buck idea would wirk for back wall and roof?
Doors i think i can use as a straight mold, or maube even save.... .
So... you are scratch building a car and decorating it with a rusty box?
I don't even
Essentially scratch building a fiberglass copy of a rusty box to go with the scratch built car.
So...it's a TCI bucket T.
