Turns out I need tires sooner then I thought today. I am planning on getting back into autocross this spring.

I have a 06 subby impreza wagon with a stick. 16 inch rimes and looking to keep street tires and no real upgrades to the car this year. Non wax or sti car.

What are some of the good tires that people where running this past year. I am keep only one set of tires and need to keep it on the road also and not looking at slicks. Something good for some fun and not harsh for driving daily.

Thanks guys.

You won't be pointy end of the field, but the RS-4 has great longevity and decent grip. Stock wheels I think are 16x6.5 so I'd stay with the 205/55 tire. The Dunlop Direzza ZII has always been a decent tire for Subies as well.

Continental dws. Had the 205/50/16 on my last protege5, and LOVE THEM.

Since we are talking tires, and in case it interests the OP.

Has anyone run Barum Bravuris 5HM?

Just bought a Forte with them.

They're on the Rio we just bought the wife. They;re pretty terrible. Not very good in the rain, not good in snow, a little noisy on dry pavement.

So the opposite of jack of all trades, nice. frown

I saw they are sold as ultra high performance but 500 tread rating and it didn't add up.

At least they are cheap enough to not feel too bad if I burn them up in autocross or rallycross.

Now will pay attention to this thread for future plans.

Thanks, guys. Need to get some tires in the next week or so along with some other stuff that needs to be fixed I found out after posting this.

Need new Stuarts also all around. The rears are leaking and need to get a new radiator also. The core support is bent so that needs to get fixed.

So, the next thing to also ask, New stuarts vs cheap coil overs. I have seen that a lot of you get them cheap for challenge cars. Just debating without doing some big price shopping just yet which would be the best bet. I plan on running stock class this year so there is that thought also for rules and I know I am not going to top place or anywhere close this year with the car. I am getting back to running and working on form over anything. But tires and a couple of minor upgrades would be worth it though for helping to improve times.

Unless you are going to adjust corner weights, or change springs, my opinion is cheap coilovers are absolute crap.

See if you can get some decent stock replacements first.  I like bilstein, but some say they have a bit of a strange dampening characteristics.

I don't know if they're as cheap as they used to be, but I bought a set of firestone firehawk Indy 500s about 15 months ago. I really like them. Functional for autocross, good on the street, surprisingly good in the rain.

If you're buying tires in the next few weeks to run NOW don't buy a summer tire. A.) you won't go anywhere. They'll be harder than granite and just spin in this cold. 2.) this extreme cold will harden the compound itself and can cause cracking etc as well as making it useless when it does get warm. Buy sone all seasons and just deal with the trade offs if you can't do another set of wheels.

Cheap coilovers suck. Moderate priced coilovers($1000-1500) are better but won't last. Good coilovers ..... well they ain't cheap. Buy some good struts (koni or bilstein for a street car) and if you want to lower a little sone springs. I prefer H&R others prefer eibach or sometimes there are some odd really good off brand springs depending on the car ( had sone great Vogtland springs on the first accent. Fantastic height/ride/rate compromise)

EDIT : he's not down south he's in Wisconsin. It's going to be -10 Sunday there after about 3 nights in a row just below zero. Summer tires will not work.

If you are looking for an all season, I was pretty impressed with the Riken Raptors I used on the challenge Impala.  They're not going to be able to compete with a 200TW tire, but they held up to autox/drag use pretty well.

From where you live and want to Auto-X, I'd just bite the bullet and get an extra set for Auto-X. Never ran harder than 340 TW in one before and can't imagine running all seasons in competition.

Well, here is the big thing. I have been to only two autocross since 2007. 2015 and 2017 challenge is the only time I have run and that was stock 02 subby outback wagon on all-season tires. So yes, All-season might be in the cards since I do not drive the car every day. I do uber and many other apps so I use it when I want to change up to or the owner of the car I use needs their truck. I use the wagon for fun and something as a side project to have fun with for something to drive for fun right now. I think I have put about 3000 miles on it since April when I got it.

And yes, I am in southeast Wisconsin also for the place. I need to start digging who to run with this season also around here and if I want to run just one group or just pick different groups to get more action I hope.
