I wanted to throw this video up in its own thread.

The question asked in the video title is pretty easy to answer without watching, but the video goes beyond that.  The Farm guy got ahold of some unopened vintage oil and did some tests on it, including having it sent out for analysis. The video is pretty interesting and informative. It's not groundbreaking or highly scientific beyond the analysis he has done, but it does illustrate one reason why the longer oil change intervals that are common now are possible.

Longer oil change intervals are possible because the the auto companies demanded tougher oil tests for the oil companies to pass. None of this matters if the car owner never checks the oil level though.

Still haven't found a good use for this since they stopped selling cans.

His bacon grease as engine lube was also interesting (and surprising).

me, too- as I've watched some of his previous videos.  Perhaps his techniques have gotten better?

MY problem is more like the vehicle engineers that watch Ford vs Ferrari.... I'll look at it in the wrong mindset and be overly critical. At least he can't be as bad as the "oil analysis" expert JG had on a few months back.

OK, it wasn't as bad as I anticipated.

these are his standard tests that he does for all oil... I would have liked him to compare to the cheapest crap you can find on the shelf also but I understand why he wouldn't have.

I don't always agree with his testing methods but I do tend to enjoy watching his stuff.

I’m surprised there was anything in that can.  We came across a whole palette of Quaker State just like that when cleaning out a barn in the ‘90’s.  Most were completely empty as the oil had oozed out over time.
