^Thinking the same thing!
Looks like I'll be playing hookie that day as well.
I'll p.m. you when it gets closer to the date, we got to meet up!
Sounds good, I have some other friends from the Tulsa area that will be going as well.

Wow. Usually when Brock brings One Lap through my neighborhood (High Plains) he does much more of a western track schedule. Like in '07 when I ran, it was Autobahn, MAM, Miller, PMP, Hallet, etc. Much more managable.
HPR to Hallet will take FAR longer than 8.5 hours, plus there are NO good hotels to stay at in that little town near Hallet. We stayed at one in '07, by far the worst, nastiest hotel I've ever seen. We literally didn't use the bathroom or sleep on the beds. Plus if you roll into Hallet late, finding fuel is a major issue. Most the gas stations there don't leave the pumps on after they close, even though they're pay at the pump.
HPR to Hallet is easily 10+ hours, so there are two really long days there. That reminds me of the One Lap schedules from the early 2000's, where it seemed like they were trying to kill people with driving while sleep deprived...
Yeah, you'll definitely want to stop off in West Tulsa or Sand Springs on the way to Hallett and get gas.
There is a new Holiday Inn in Sand Springs, right next to a Starbucks for Coffee/Food in the morning and a QT across the street with Top Tier gas. That puts you about 30 minutes to Hallett in the morning.
I dunno if fuel will be much of an issue... I think there was only one night we rolled into town the night before looking for gas. Most of the rest of the time we were back-whatever to make sure we ended up with between 1/3 and 1/2 a tank when we got to the track.
otoh, w.r.t. fuel, the E85 runners are going to enjoy this year
30 minutes to the track seems like that much less time to eat breakfast and sleep but might be worth it if the other closer options are that bad.
CO-TX looks to have exactly no e85 in between, we were discussing that as a budget way to add more power safely but I don't fancy carrying a 50 gallon drum with me to make it to the next stage.

Beat me to it, word for word. I'm tempted hang out at the QT for a bit just to people watch when all that serious iron stops there for gas

All the hotels in that town closest to Hallet are to be avoided at all costs. We stayed there because we didn't want to drive 45 minutes to the track that morning. It was a decision we all regretted.
There's NO way I'd drive a car reliant on E85 on One Lap. As you know, One Lap is more about inter state transit driving than track driving. The total inconvenience of trying to find E85 far out weighs the gains you'll get on track with it.

that little bit at the end there, is so hard to remember! transits take out more cars than the actual track time, it's all together too easy to get caught up chasing lap times when the key is surviving the week with some amount of sleep and energy.
We're personally working on safer and more reliable this year. Proper seat is going in. New suspension. Staying on the skinny tires for one more year. Brake ducting. Quieter exhaust. Probably working on better packing.

So weird question about that. Have you thought about a vacuum sealer?
I'm just assuming you don't need fancy(wrinkle free) clothes on one lap, you could vacuum seal your clothes up in bags by the day, and fit a whole week in a back pack. Maybe even take it with you for the dirty clothes too, there fairly small and lightweight.
I do that when I fly sometimes and don't feel like checking a bag. Just a weird place you could save some room or make loading/unloading easier.
In reply to RevRico :
That's a good idea. You could use the Ziploc space bags too, theyre reusable and actually work really well (they have a one way valve that you force the air out of by rolling them up).
Clothing takes up a small percentage of space/weight overall. The big thing is being able to pack the car in the time it takes the driver to change out of a firesuit, and be able to keep everything dry when it rains.
I've been trying to convert Seth to Sea-to-Summit lightweight stuff-sack bags since 2015... hasn't taken yet.
One Lap presents a challenging "keep my stuff dry" deal. You have stuff you have to use almost every day (torque wrench, tire gauge). Electronics you'll want to use through the day (phone, camera, tablet, go-pros) You've got stuff you don't want to get, or it'll ruin your week (clothes/shoes). But, the size/weight of an easy-up might not be in your interest... because you've got to put it up and down before you take off... and you've got to have enough heavy stuff to keep it from blowing away... since there's no way to anchor it down.
Unfortunately, a lot of the overland/expedition solutions don't apply to us because their either intended to be staked into the ground... or are attached to the vehicle (which we need to go on-track)
If I ever went to having a trailer... it would be to use it as a base for some kind of easy awning setup thing... using the weight of the trailer to keep it in place. But, I don't see that happening anytime soon for me.

You gotta pull a tire trailer. Let me repeat that... You *gotta* pull a tire trailer!
Not only does it give you *lots* more space for tools, bags, an extra wheel, a bicycle etc, it also totally frees up your time! So instead of arriving at the track at O-dark-thirty to empty the car out, all you have to do is unhitch the trailer.
Then when you're done at the track, instead of taking a bunch of time to tetris repack your car, all you do is hitch up the trailer and leave.
Bring a tire trailer!!!!
Seth, you've proclaimed the short comings of the 'V' (lack of proper belts) , but with all you two are doing to the civic , would a bolt in bar with 'belts' be less expensive in the long run? Not to mention packing is less of an issue in the 'V'.....kinda biased here

I'm waiting for my E36 M3 to be old enough to run in the "Vintage Foreign" category, then I'll do One Lap again in it. It's a totally prepped street/track time trial car. So comfy enough for the transits but has all the necessary track safety gear...

That's where we're going. I have a seat and the proper bracket is on the way. Once we get that in we'll have a sit down about a bolt in bar. Both of us are well aware of why not to use a seat and belts without one so that's part of the discussion. The car is currently his DD and only car but he's picking up an older truck at Christmas so that may change the conversation.
Speed is also an issue. Terminal speeds on the Civic are 110ish but were above 140 on the V. That's a lot of kinetic energy.
We did the car Tetris last year although we had planned on a roof box but figured out we didn’t actually need the space when we got to check in.
i think we had about 30 minutes into the first pack at check in. leaving our first transit took about 10 minutes and by the end of the trip we could repack in about 3 minutes.
We did pick up some tricks for this year like an air compressor is smaller than a air tank and you don’t have to worry about filling it. Clothes weren’t an issue we both fit what we needed for a week in a backpack each. We didn’t have anything to hold all our electronic gadgets once we got to the track so we frequently found ourselves digging for cords. This year we’ll have a small Rubbermaid tote for those and we need to figure out a better snack/trash system.
we will likely try the tire trailer option this year to see if that speeds up our departures.
In reply to klodkrawler05 :
Instead of rubbermaid... go to the container store and look at their "weather proof" storage boxes... that's what all my "car gear" was in. was fine/dry as long as i kept it closed when it was wet.
Hmm... maybe i should test that again with the shower and go-pro?
more official, and "detailed" schedule is visible now
interesting that we might only 2 of the tracks at Cresson. Could be a typo?
edit: on second thought, making a timing crew pull High Plains - Cresson - NOLA or High Plains - Cresson - NCM probably is out of the question, since you'd need two crews at Cresson to run all 3 tracks the way it was done in 2015

Looks like one lap of the midwest to me.
looks like the MIS in the link I shared above is a bit of a placeholder, based on this update:
re: 'OneLap of the Midwest'
I suppose, but if we did a "Lap Around the US" like they did the first few years... we'd have no time for track driving. I prefer the current format.

Going to look at a used AA C38-92 Stage 2 supercharger kit my friend has for sale for my E36 M3 today. You have any issues with keeping your water temps under control with your kit/car on track?
In reply to docwyte :
Watertemps are the easy one, they stay under control just fine with my CSF radiator and straight water + a bottle of water wetter.
It's the oil temps that I continually have issues with although I'm getting closer to having that sorted. I can only do 3 full steam laps during cooler weather. At Road Atlanta this past August 3 laps in a row were straight out of the question.
One interesting thing that came from Rd ATL was I let professional HPD driver Tom O'Gorman pilot my car and he was able to run an entire 20 minute session going multiple seconds faster than me just by short shifting the whole session around 7k rpm because he wasn't sure what the redline was (8200) So that is the backup plan if the additional oil cooling I add this winter doesn't suffice.
