My wife just slightly against my better judgment takes our new-to-us 2014 Odyssey to a automatic car wash. ($3 on wednesdays so maybe it's a fair trade off since I dont have to spend 45 mins washing...)

Anyway, just noticed today that there is a 4" circle of paint peeled off of the roof just above the windshield. It is peeling around the edges of the spot.

I'm no paint expert but it looks like bad paint to me if I can just peel sheets off (which I haven't done but I could at least peel some off right now if I wanted to).

Just outside of the 3 year/36k warranty. I bought an extended warranty through Honda but don't think it was an actual Honda warranty.

Do these years/models have issues?

What can we do besides taking it to a body shop and paying for it out of pocket??

Hondas are notorious for garbage clear coat, but I thought those problems were largely confined to the 80s and 90s. Frequently paint defects are a separate (and longer) warranty, so check in to that. also you said it was new to you. Dealer or private sale? If it was a dealer that's the first place I'd be. Worth the trip to ask them "Uh, does this seem a bit unusual to you?"

Dealer - it was a friend's lease return.

I will definitely be hitting them up.

After some research, it sounds like this has been a problem for some newer hondas; especially those with the white and moreso for the nice pearl white paint.

Others I saw got a 90% off deal through their Honda dealer. Maybe that's the best we can hope for.

Sounds like the roof was resprayed. The 06-08 Civics experienced a clear coat failure due to a change in the clear coat type they were using. Not familiar with Odysseys suffering the same fate. If you want a really quick way to wash the car to avoid the automatic car wash I recommend using a rinseless wash product such as optimum no-rinse. You fill a bucket with 3 gallons of water and an ounce of this stuff, you wash and dry a panel at a time so you can knock out a wash in 15 minutes max.
