Def. gonna pull the tank. There's almost a full tank in there. Good info on the other fluids, though.
If I do decide to scrap it, whats a ball park price that I should expect( I know that prices vary by area, day, etc... ). I plan on pulling the starter, radiator, etc and throwing old vw and audi parts in the back, but I wanna try to get a general baseline, if possible.
call and ask what they pay per ton for junk cars. you can sometime negotiate up depending on what other stuff you throw in it, or they could also drop it down some depending on what stuff you throw in it. but get a price before you roll across the scale.
Please remember my email before you scrap it, and let me know what kind of numbers you are working with. I'd like the engine and rear differential, and I can pull them myself in a few hours if I'm not worried about the condition of the car when I'm done.
Also, what kind of VW parts? I have a VW, and I need parts. =)
Call these guys:
http://www.ncscrapmetal.com/index.html
They're in Garner and seem to be the largest in the area, they'll tell you what the prices are for the week and let you know how they want the scrap delivered.
I guess that they also pick-up, but you'll have to call and talk with 'em.
Luck,
T
Oh, this scrapping stuff is EASY and once you get that $$ in your hand, you'll be addicted to it. Todd and I scrapped an entire in/out of ground swimming pool assembly a couple of years ago. Came to a around 1,500 pounds or more in "clean" scrap aluminum. Done cars, and trash scrap, he does water heaters and such weekly, sold cats and copper, aluminum and alloy. VERY hard to resist the draw of turning junk crap metal into coins ! ! ! !
Again, thats one reason I love this place!!
Thanks for the info. I'm not here much now, as my wife is expecting and we're having some "adjustment issues" in the household.
@Brett -- I wont forget. My vw parts are mostly A1 rabbit and A2 golf( short blocks, heads, etc). I do have an audi quattro block that weighs a ton, though. Anyone need a set of upgraded, dished pistons from said audi??
If you've got a VW 16v head in there, I'll take that FOR SURE.

I wish I did. I would keep it for myself. I have 8v( solid and hyd lifter ) heads.

So, you made any progress towards getting it out of there? Been scrapping my Mustang about as long as you've been getting rid of your ride and I haven't even got the engine out of it yet.
Biggest thing that I've done all month is cut the sway bar out of the front to make more room to get at the engine mounts.
Yeeeesssshhhhh . . . . this scrapping thing is WAY hard doing it alone in the driveway.
I've made progress getting things on the list above this done, but not actually touched the truck yet. Wifey hasnt been feeling all that great and I have a three yr old that I need to keep entertained.
Depending on the weather, I should have some time this weekend coming up. In times like this, an in-door work area would be great.
Still pressing on and moving forward....
I've already posted this in our classified and you guys have first dibs, but how does this read as a CL ad:
1999 Ford Explorer Limited
- 210k(?) on the car. Was used as a company vehicle b/4 my ownership. Driven daily since my purchase in 2005 for most weeks around 400miles/week( 95% of that highway ). Certain times of the year the mileage was higher b/c of work, trips, etc. Used only MC semi-blend oil and filters for the last 6years.
- AWD automatic tranny
- Ford 302 motor( heads and intakes used as an performance swap on some ford v8s )
- Interior in great shape( cream colored leather )
- Exterior also in great shape( pearl white when washed )
In interest of full disclosure, the truck overheated while my wife was out of town from a small rad leak and cracked egr tube. Cut off on her twice, but was started up and driven home a few days later w/o overheating( approx 3miles ). Diagnosed w/ no compression in cyl 1 by dealership. Has been parked for around 9months, but started twice since then. Observed a noise that sounded like tapping, but after more investigation it was more likely the cracked egr tube. Engine has not been opened to accurately diagnose. I have the title and would like the car gone soon( likely next week after U finish removing the catalytic converters. Shipping will be from 27529 and for smaller items only( no doors, hood, etc... ).
Let me know what you need, information-wise or parts. Pics will be posted tomorrow.
