Rabbit truck is rated as 1/2 ton pickup! That black one looks like the one I had that nearly ended up with an Audi V8 in the bed running the rear wheels.
Rabbit Pickup FTMFW!

One of the more "interesting" blank vs blank on here.
Unfortunately, I doubt I would fit in a VW's seats (I'm too tall), so for that reason alone, the Dodge would be my choice. I'm still kicking myself for not buying the new one I saw on a central Texas dodge dealer's lot over 25 years ago.
I have seen one or two of the Rampages done up as Chargers...and there is almost no VW truck I've seen that can touch them for looks. BUT, if I fit in a VW, I'd probably vote VW for no other reason than today the aftermarket support is still strong for whatever version of the VW you want to build (In other words, there's no diesel Rampage/Scamp).
My grey rabbit that I posted earlier had a 1.9 16V on MS that laid down 156 to the wheels and still managed 38mpg. It handled like a rabbit but the extra wheelbase gave it a better ride.
Interior was very cramped though. I went with Corrado seats to get further down and back but it still wasn't what I would call comfortable.
I just don't care for the styling of the 80's dodge stuff at all. Actually, that is being a bit kind. I openly loathe it.
OP votes VW for one reason only you can get a diesel in the rabbit truck. That's so cool
To all who complained about the lack of diesel in the Rampage i just want to point out...
Some omnis came with a vw 1.7+manual. That drivetrain swaps into Rampage, and that bellhousing works with the diesel. So it's possible to swap a vw diesel into a rampage with drop-in trans/axles/shifter, etc. The only thing i dont know for certain is if the starter placement is compatible without modification, but i HAVE seen a vw diesel swapped into an omni so i assume it is at least feasible even if it's not drop-in.
I would really like to do a diesel 79-82 2-dr L. I like the trucklets but to me they overlap a bit too much with my Plymouth Arrow truck.
Anyway, i vote Rampage here because it's a lot more useful, a lot easier to stick big power in, and is slightly better looking in general.
Oh and that Rampage in the burnout pictures ran around 10 flat @136mph iirc.

Oh yeah, couple guys I used to race with dollies their Rabbits behind rabbit trucks. Loved that.
Rampage. I drove that black turbo with the Shelby face that was at the Challenge a few years ago, it was mean and awesome.
Like both, but the Rampage is much better looking. Besides, I have a tone fo cool L-body stuff which would work one.

Yup guy at work gots one. Reminds me of riding a tractor.

That's one reason why i dont view the OEM diesel vw caddy as a very big plus. To get it to be fun to drive you have to do major mods like turbocharging or swapping in a later motor, and at that point you're not far removed from the effort of putting a later TDI into a rampage. Since the rampage is cooler in a lot of other ways i think the possibility of a 1.9 turbo diesel rampage is cooler than the reality of an n/a 1.6l diesel caddy. my .02
Rampage hands down.
It's exactly like the rabbit, only better. And a diesel isn't a selling point when it's stupid slow and only useful for mpg.
I'll take my rampage with small lights and a turbo pls.
I dislike the VW less than the Rampage.
The Rabbit doesn't have the "trailerpark" image that the Rampage does.
Shawn
Just a question, how can the rampage have a trailer park image when next to no one knows about them?

I'm in Canada.
For some reason, the trailer parks around here always seem to have a dead Ramapge or two in them.
I think the Rampage is the Canadian trailer park equivalent to the G-body.
Canadians have good taste in trucklets then.
Now if we could get you to fix your bacon and stop importing horrible music I'd like the place more.

Seriously. Like 0-60 in 20 seconds slow. So slow as to be marginal in keeping up with traffic.
Guess I'll vote Rampage for looks and easy turbo swapability.
In reply to Grizz:
We don't even call what you're thinking of "Bacon"
Bacon comes in strips.
Ham is round.
The only time I've ever had "Canadian bacon" is when it came on a Pizza.
While we're on the subject, you guys really need to fix your cheese industry. That waxy, orange stuff is supposed to have some flavour to it.
You'll need to log in to post.
