The car, called the HCD-8—the eighth concept to come out of the Hyundai California Design Studio—was powered by V6 engine backed…

I don't ever worry too much about the drivetrain layout. I really like the flat load floor and externally gated shifter. I don't like the hatch opening having that deep well though.

I get where it looks more like a genesis overall..

but it's almost like they basically decided that they liked different parts of this and decided to split it into the Veloster and the Gensis Coupe.

I was thinking more Tiburon than Veloster here. As a possible next generation of Tiburon, I think it's styled a bit better - taller wheel wells and larger wheels than what made it into production, and a much nicer interior.

So that's a Delta engine (2.5/2.7) with a supercharger. Alpine was doing those through the early 2000's for Tiburons.  I'd put hard money that's on a GL Tib chassis with pretty outsides/inside.

Make that thing at least 8" taller and it's basically what the modern 'SUV gran coupayyyy' fad is. Maybe it was ahead of its time.

Love the gated manual shifter, no pop up touch screen, and no steering wheel controls. The hatch is great but could be refined to include more than just the glass. I'll take the boosted V6 FWD over the Natural V6 RWD.
