Saab, no debate for me. V4, 4spd on the column, the spiritual inspiration for Subaru (at least in my opinion). Few French cars even come close.
Still wishing we had bought a '73 95 a few years ago...

I alway thought Subarus idea for the engine came from the Goliath aka: Borgward Hansa 1100.
Since this thread won't quit, I must point out that The SAAB 96 is the greatest rally car evar
Edit: not really the greatest ever, but greatest of the prehistoric BCE* era.

I'm not familiar with those. I was referring more to the drivetrain layout and overall quirkiness. When I look at early Subarus I see a lot of Saab 93 & 96 in them, although I'll admit I didn't see this until years later.
