Really hard to work on, only got over 40 mpg one tank, and if I had kept it I would have had $12k+ into it to fix all the issues. I did read that they finally decided to warranty the hpfp issues on the newer ones, there is a lot of information on the tdi club board. I'm going to stick with Mercedes if I drive a diesel though, no more VW.Wow definitely sounds like you got a not very good one. I made sure to buy one with good document maintenance history.
Agreed. While the stories of consistent 50+ tend to make me look askew (my car typically got upper 40's with a few 50's now and then), the only time I ever got under 40 was with two DH bikes on the roof, packed to the roof with gear and climbing through the hills of WV on the way to a race at Snowshoe in a rather spirited manner. Even doing autocross runs barely made a difference in mileage.
To be honest, the only reason I've stopped driving it is from pure boredom. But I really need to get it running again before I'm doing 700 mile trips to NH and I'm getting reimbursed for some of the miles.
