So a coworker (Clem Sparks) start a conversation with "Let me just apologize to your wife now" which led to him telling me that one of his friends had an 81 Starlet for sale. It has some issues; floor pan is working on being one with the earth, the hood is pretty trashed from hail, and one of the rear suspension mounts has torn loose from the body due to rust. However, it is not as rusty as I would have expected, it fires right up and idles pretty well, and he only wants 250 for it with a title! The wife isn't going to be happy but I think that this puppy is coming home. Once home I will start a build thread.
Sorry for the terrible pictures.

Seriously, how often are wives happy?
If for no other reason, buy the Starlet for $250, drag it home, write a Craigslist ad in Spanish and then roll around on the floor in all the money you make.

Silly question. Of course you should.
It really isn't a question of getting talked out of it. More of how to explain this to the wife even though I have told her that I was done with project cars in the past. Damn my mouth...
Needs more rollcage, sheet aluminum floor, and spinning triangles.
Yeah, flip that baby for profits... then again I have a zero-tolerance policy on rust since I'm from the southwest.
berkeley yes you take that Starlet and you fix it. You take it right now.

Get a camoflage tarp to hide it under and only work on it when she's not home

There seems to be some surface rust on that rear bumper.
In Ohio, that Starlet would be listed as "nearly rust free."

Drop a 13B rotary in it and make a 2013 Challenge car!
"Honey, I changed my mind."
Besides, it runs, so its not a project in my book. Bodywork and rust repair are maintenance for me.
PS, if you don't buy it, let me know where it is. I'm not far from you, and I would totally rock that.
Starlets are COOL cars... but only upto about 80, or 90mph MAX. They get real scary above there. It can be made to be one tough, and fun little go-kart
The rusted suspension mount would keep me away
The "K" engine in it WAS 50hp, not sure what it is now
It is a fun car to swap a 4AGE into. Stock 4AGE... on stock engine management DOUBLES the hp

Fer real. The real question is, is it home yet?
The kicker is that I CAN DRIVE IT HOME! $250! I am probably getting it tonight, assuming I don't have to live in it.
is this where we start posting Starlet porn?
Dont do this.
Or this.
Definately not this.
No, just...No.

Do it or don't, but E36 M3 or get off the pot so the next guy in line can buy it if you don't.
XOXO,
The next guy in line.
Suck it psteav! Also, if you want to help fix it up I would sure appreciate the help...
A. You were not being honest with the wife or the self when you made a statement about being done with project cars. Fact.
B. All the people saying "Why are you asking this and not GETTING it NOW" are justified in responding that way.
C. Flipping for profit is not exactly why I clued you in on this deal. (though, it will help keep the wife from traking me down and beating me). I could have done that myself, but chose to "share the wealth" so to speak
Psteav...don't worry too much, your next project car is going to be cooler anyway (plus, maybe you can sell magic spinning triangle cores to StarletSlammer)
CoWorker Clem
Psteav had magic triangles?? How interesting... Maybe we need to have a talk about this...
I miss my Starlet.
You must buy this one because of that sentiment.

Yeah, I just read that one. That is cool that TRD made that. I bet no one is repoping them though
