You could keep the vent, usually the front, and route it to the expansion tank.
Whether it is needed or not is still a question, especially since you have changed the angle of the dangle it might need to be relocated to the highest point.
You said thermostat outlet on the front of the head, so as long as that is the highest point to burp it that will suffice (sans steam vent).
This makes me ask what you have planned for a thermostat bypass passage? In my head I see a water outlet at both ends of the head going to the thermostat, so the south end does not run hotter.
