This popped up for sale on a local site. Listed as a 1946 "Metro Van" with a 1965 motorhome conversion.

I just thought you guys might appreciate it because it's ... kind of adorable. Or maybe I'm just weird.

Any idea who made it? (The van part.) It looks somehow eastern European, I could see Tatra or Skoda coming up with something like this.

Looks like an old milk truck to me.

Edit: Yep

The whole thing's for sale for $3000 (CAD). Here's the ad:

I am local if you need a hand prepping for an epic roadtrip. Just saying.

Edit: just noticed it says International right in the ad title. Derp.

E36 M3 why does all the cool stuff have to be so far away? I might as well buy a trailer and bring back Javlin's Javlin while I'm up there.

Here's a free trailer on the same site (but you need to dispose of a boat.) No one can say I'm not helpful.

Free boats are usually self-disposing when you launch them.

If that were 1000 miles closer I'd need marriage counseling.

I agree it's pretty cool, but for $3000 it had better already be running and driving. As it sits, I'm thinking there's one too many zero's in that asking price. A staggering amount of work will be needed before that's a usable RV again.

Yea but remove the box, put in a flatbed and you have a cool COE truck. Tried to see but couldn't tell if there's a drivers door without going through the RV part.

Looked again and I don't think so. I'd have to get creative.

$3000 Canadian, that's about $300 American isn't it? Organizing for next weeks Rolex it sure seems like it.

That is really cool. I dig the old bread trucks like this. Especially seeing how many of them are getting "Hot Rodded" these days with air suspension and wheels and leaving the patina on the body.

If you could get it sorted out and the rust isn't bad this would be a very cool little camper.

Yeah buying an old RV and expecting to use it immediately is like buying a 70-yr old cottage along with a 60-yr old car and expecting to drive to the store in your "new car", get some beer, and have the refrigerator, TV, and restroom work when you walk in to watch the game - not likely. Expecting to do a complete refurbishment of every subsystems is probably a better assumption.

In reply to kb58:

No. I would not expect a usable RV for $3000. I just want it to move under its own power. Sort of like Toyman's bus project. Hell, I'd be tempted to gut the thing while still at the yard so it would be less weight to drive home.

It does say 'rebuilt engine and suspension', but I'm generally suspicious that 'rebuilt' means "we took it apart, found the hole in the block, and put it back together."

BTW nothing rusts on this island. You guys in the midwest have no idea.

Well don't get me wrong, I'd love a project like that, as long as the wife never found out. Bonus points if it has a hitch and can pull a race car.

I agree it's cool. So, somebody needs to buy it. Just not me!
