i'm starting a little project and i've been thinking about using a vg30de , i obviously have my reasons , but i want to hear other's opinions on the motor itself, it would be going into a(n s13) 240sx .

The vg30 series is a good engine, I had one in my '90 maxima and ran like a champ, until the trans blew.
I have one you can have for 150.00. It already has a 350z oil pan and motor mounts for a s13. I also have a 6-speed 350z tranny bolted to it that you can have for $250.00.

Sorry I just realized mine is a VQ30DE, out of a 1995 Maxima. Sorry. My friend was putting it in his s13 and got deployed.
As far as I know it is I got it from a buddy who was swapping it into his car.
here is a swap thing I found regarding the engine on wikipedia

Dude, I need those VQ parts right now. I'm in the middle of a swap as we speak. There is a lot of stuff that hasn't been done and is unproven, and I intend to document it completely and sell anything you need to make it work. I'm even cutting and rewelding the intake manifold plenum so it faces forward like it should. So many people have half finished swaps, and ghetto mounts.
As for the VG, its a good swap as well.
The VG's will be cheaper and more proven and they have much more parts and support then the 3L VQ's.
I know a couple of guys have done VG30DETT swaps in S13s, it fits and I think there's more room then in a Z32 bay! I think the main thing you need is a J30 oil pan. There's a good amount of info on it on nicoclub.com. The VG is a great option too, its 300whp capable out of the box and plenty room to grow with simple upgrades. The SOHC VG is a great option too, it loves boost and is even stronger then the dohc. VG.
Both are great options, its just personal preference really but all nissan sixes are awesome.

I've learned a lot about the VG30E with our build, and I've been more and more impressed. Can't beat the potential power/$$$ ratio.
my impression of the VQ is that it's more compact as well.
I'd pass on a VG unless it was uber cheap, but that 's just me. There's nothing wrong with them.

Agreed. This is a Challenge car I'm talking about.
Is $150 to much for a vq30de with the 350 z oil pan? I think my buddy paid almost that much just for the oil pan assembly. And you get free motor mounts for a S13. I guess if you want to you could give me more. It is the holidays after all...
As far as I know everything works as it should on the engine and the tranny..
No it is not too much at all.
If you are happy to sell it for that, the buyer will be very happy to buy it for that. Makes me wish i needed it!
