That is a pretty good primer on the functions of vortex generators. The mention of the Mistu Evo in the original post, does bear a little more explanation though. The VG's fitted to that car were used to influence the flow over the rear wing (3-4 feet away), so the vortex created and its other effects (mixing high energy and low energy flow) does persist for a significant time/distance behind the VG.
The final shots are at one of the tunnel here in the Charlotte area that is open to customer use. They do a lot of salt flats cars and bicycles, and the US bob sled teams test there too. Those are fun tests to attend.
