Why Now is the Time to Buy a Wagoneer
They have always held their values well, at least for those in good shape. Hipsters around Brooklyn love them, just because "woodgrain". My best friend bought one a few years ago, and the only thing it was good at was looking nice on a flatbed. Those carpets though!
Yep, i ran across that site a few months ago for some reason and about puked. Explains why rusty nasty ones are going for so much money now.
I know, I was looking at getting another one since I had 4 over the years and immediately said screw that when I saw the prices. They were cool but not that cool. Wish I still had my 79 cherokee though. With the 401 in it, the only thing it couldn't get through without stopping was a gas station.
That's nuts. There's a gorgeous looking one in gunmetal grey (and of course faux wood paneling) on a dealer lot where I live but I haven't stopped to look at the price. It's been there for awhile though so maybe they are asking ridiculous money for it too.
Didn't read the link, but I read the same thing probably 3-4 years ago. Buy now, they're coming up in price.
Is it legit? Is it really happening or just more 'future classic' type reporting
A quick perusal of Craigslist has them range anywhere from $2800 for a pretty beat '84 that needs an entire interior, but mechnically sound (as sound as they can be considered), and then allllll the way up to one for $49,500 that's been restored. There's a lot in between with most around $10,000 and pretty high miles and honestly not that nice. I think people got the memo.
I just looked on CL. Most everything around here is $1500-$4000. I wonder if there is a niche market of buying these for interstate flipping?
I have poked around here a few times. I would buy one if I could convince the wife/banker.

The ones bringing money are the fully pimped out versions like this one. The time to buy was five years ago. The market will crash once gas prices go back up.
The only Jeeps I would still consider an "investment" are Scramblers. And even those need to be bought right to keep from losing your butt.
So I guess I should go look at this one then
1990 grand wagoneer - $1500 (Boca Raton)

My brother in law just dragged home a highly scabby example. He thinks it's going to be awesome. I think it's going to suck up a whole bunch of money to be restored. Knowing him, it'll end up being too heavily modified for offroad use to be useful for anything else. It's a pattern...
Lets just say I'm not so sure about this Stick Shelf Paper on the Side of the Truck nostalgia. It was cheese ball back in the day. Now it's retro cheese ball.
This though, I like:
Nope, not overpriced at all....

I guess the Land Cruiser disease has started to infect the jeepers brains. Anybody that's actually driven a J series probably doesn't want another....
