He said snowBELT, not snowBIRD riders.
Rain/sleet right now in Milwaukee, but maybe go for a ride this weekend. I usually put the Santa suit on, on Christmas Eve, and ride around passing out candy canes to kids that wave.
Rode to work yesterday and today- it's actually really nice out here in PA/NJ.

Rode to work yesterday as well! Welding gloves are great, but aren't really insulated enough to protect against the wind. I've got to find my right hand winter glove....
Took the week off due to needing a battery. That will be replaced tomorrow and I'll be back on it next week.
New Mexico doesn't really qualify as the snowbelt but I've been riding; down into the 20s at night and 50s during the day. Got a flat on the rear, so I commute in warmth until I get that stuff delivered and get around to replacing the tube/tire. Grip heaters I added work great!

I actually knew a guy who rode year-round in Chicagoland back in the 80s. Motorcycle Mike--- rode around Glen Ellyn all Winter long--- through snow, sleet, rain, etc. He was a Vietnam vet who had head injuries and wasn't quite "right" anymore. I'm sure that bike gave him joy though....as he was always on it. He was hardcore.
me riding in 60 degree weather........not at all hardcore.
29 here this morning and I rode in.
I'm not in the snow belt by any stretch though.
In reply to Joe Gearin:
I worked with a guy like that. His name was "Biker Ray". Had a fully custom built Harley. Probably a $65K bike. Rode it year round, came to work with frozen tears on his cheek and ice in his beard. Said he built it to ride, not look at.
In reply to Joe Gearin:
There's a in Milwaukee that rides a Sportster with a sidecar, in the winter. It's rolling on knobby tires.
Went riding today. 37 mile loop. 40 deg? Felt nice to let the FZ1 rip a bit. Did see some ice in the shade, left over from overnight? Fun time:-)

After Nam, anything that could happen to him on that bike would seem like child's play.
^^^ agreed
He obviously had some sort of traumatic brain injury, as he was a little "off". Still was able to ride around and enjoy life though. I worked at a fast food joint, and he used to come by for lunch. He was always a nice guy, and pretty damn hard-core when it came to riding his bike. I think it was a CB350, or something similar----smallish Japanese bike. He was extremely well known around Glen Ellyn, as he had lived there all his life. IIRC

On Saturday morning, I drove over to eastsidemav's house to get the title on the GS500 that I sold him transferred. Since it was an out of state transfer for him, we had to take the bike to the BMV. He recommended the trailer but since it wasn't rainy or icy, I said "let's ride!". I would have ridden my 'wing over to his house, except there was just tons and tons of dense fog and I don't like that.
Anyway, I jump on the bike and ride it from his place to the title office. It's about 5-10 miles or so, and it's cold enough that the fog is condensing on my gloves and freezing. My breath was fogging my glasses and the helmet face shield and then freezing. But it wasn't bad other than that. When we got to the BMV, there was another bike there that I assume was getting a title transfer as well. It was one of those BMW adventure touring bikes with the hard cases and the knobby tires and all that. On a trailer. Apparently, they don't know what an adventure really is!
Got out for 70 miles on Saturday, with the GF. Sunny and cool - 40deg.
I just scored a Gerbings heated vest and controller on ebay for cheap and was all excited to try it out. Naturally, it's going to be almost 60 and sunny for the next 5 days. I guess the silver lining there is ... it's going to be 60 and sunny for the next 5 days.
That's a nice problem to have.
Made it out again today. Such a mild winter so far here.
Yea, it's been a rough winter. Yesterday I was sweating in shorts, and looking at how the lawn needs to be mowed. Last year I had a foot or two of snow.
So I went for a ride, and let the wife decorate the house. Win win!
Went to Christmas Valley Sand Dunes last weekend. I was thinking that it had potential to be epic with the cooler temps and rain making the sand really firm for ultra traction. Unfortunately they got a little bit of snow before we got there and then it snowed the whole time we were there. Still a great camping trip and a little bit of awesome riding.
Almost lost it here, that would have hurt. Thank you again steering damper.
XR650R rocks in the dunes.
Snowing pretty hard by the time we were packed up
Rad.
I'm riding to work tomorrow. At 3:30 am. Because I have too.
Got out again yesterday, temp hovering around zero. Heated jacket and bar muffs made it perfectly comfortable for dropping off Christimas cookies.
Did deliveries for the Mrs. holiday card business yesterday on my (somewhat extended) lunch break. It was mid-50s and raining. In December. In NE PA. Looks like it could be 60F on xmas eve. It cannot last but it's good while does.
They better have my car fixed by Saturday. Its mother berkeleyin cold riding. 29 degrees? No buenos.
Twas a little chili this morning. 32* when I left the house. I will be finishing up me hand guard/wind deflectors over the Christmas break.
