Well, New England DID get the memo! But all of them are automatics and still $40k.

The reason the SS exists here is just to fulfill Union contracts for production in Australia where it's made, until the parts run out sometime next year and they quit making cars down under all together. They dont' market it because they don't really want to sell them. It's very expensive to manufacture cars in Australia. Add to that the cost of importing them and rebranding and it wouldn't surprise me if GM was close to losing money on the SS when sold here. I'm certain it's much more profitable to put you into a new Silverado or Camaro. Also, I want one.novaderrik wrote:It wasn't always that way. Also, I didn't realize that Chevy still made a Impala SS for 2016. Hard for me to believe that is a big enough segment for Chevy to have 2 players.NordicSaab wrote: Can I just point out that the name of the "SS" is awful. Yes, history, legacy, blah, blah, blah, but no one knows what it is. You say an "SS" and most people default to the Camaro, and good luck finding them through a search engine. I feel like they wold have sold better if they were called the Impala SS... just my $0.02...the Impala is a fwd car, the SS is a rwd car.
It's also their marketing vehicle of choice for the NASCAR Cup series..
In reply to novaderrik:
I've always found that a little odd. Ford and Toyota both use smaller FWD cars, but instead of using a Malibu or Impala that would directly compete with the Camry and Fusion for sales GM chose a larger, RWD performance oriented car that costs significantly more than the competition from Ford and Toyota.
It's almost like for one brief meeting, the real car guys at GM wanted to let the world know about this great RWD, LS sedan and so they quickly sent out a press release saying that they had a new entry in NASCAR before anybody could say otherwise. The cat was out of the bag then butGM did what GM does and bean counters got involved and did everything in their power to keep the public in the dark so they wouldn't sell too many SSs.

"And I am both FWD and an SS. Conversely, I am also terrible."
