No, this is not a story about my Disco.. while it is still chugging along happily after a year and 10,000 miles this is about the other addition to my life I got almost a year ago.

I am talking about my Green Cheeked Conure, Skittles. When I got her, I rescued her from an older couple who loved birds, but never bothered to truly love them. They were in fancy cages with all the toys a birdie could want, but were never socialized or let out to explore or do true bird things.

It has taken me almost a year of letting Skittles out daily to where I can finally scratch her neck and back without getting bit (she would bite any skin that came within reach of her beak.. often drawing blood) and last night she surprised me.

She has landed on me before, but usually I shook her off as I do not need a pierced ear.. but last night I let her stay and because I was wearing a heavy sweater, just made sure my ear was inaccessible. Instead of going for it, she spent an hour on my shoulders playing in (what remains of) my hair and preening the back of my neck. It took almost a year, but she is finally starting to get cuddly.

And of course.. I had to throw this up.. sharing her favourite food in the whole world.. the Banana.

That is great to hear. +1 on providing the bird with the environment it needs.
