From my outsider, Ohio resident's perspective, when I watched the riots I could only think that everything I know about Baltimore, I learned on The Wire. Though, what I learned made me also realize how possible it really was. The Wire showed plenty of "unnecessary roughness" coming from the cops on a regular basis.

I also found it interesting that the current female mayor was pretty well portrayed on The Wire as a council women wanting to be mayor.

Speaking of mayor, the TV mayor Charcceti is pretty damn exact to President Candidate Martin O'Malley

Strike Back

A great series from the UK, shown on Cinemax.

One note: there are adult sex scenes (it is skinemax after all), so be aware of that in case you watch it around prudes :)

Orphan Black. Not for the under 16 crowd. Maybe under 18. But well worth the time. Seasons 1-3 already on Prime, 4 should be soon. Season 5 is not yet shot, and will be the final season.

That's not a coincidence.

I started watching the wire. Very good so far. I didn't realize how old it is though. I thought it was on TV a couple of years ago, but it started in 2002. That's the year my oldest son was born. Looking forward to watching more. I'm 1.5 episodes in. Watching on my computer, as I don't seem to know how to get Amazon video on my smart TV.

Funny that you mention how old The Wire is. I have a 28 yr old that works for me that I recommended The Wire to. He loved it very much but since the first season deals with pagers/beepers, he found himself a little lost and I had to go in depth for him explaining how pagers worked.

In 2002 he would have been 14 years old in a rather protected upbringing in a rural town.

From the recommendation of this thread I have gotten about 4 episodes into Justified.

It's pretty good but I'm ready for something else to happen other than another Justified shooting.
I'll stick with it.

It bothered my wife that I could explain most of what the Barksdale guys were doing and was impressed by it. If they really kept things that tight they did a fine job.

The contrast of the rank and rules of both the street and the cops was interesting.

Both jobs have their rules.
Stringer Bell and the Rules of Roberts at drug dealer meetings. Such as, "the Chairman recognizes the floor" etc.

I died laughing when they broke out the rules.

I don't know if it's on Prime but I've been watching Baskets from Fx. It takes a little time to get into it and it's not for everyone, but I really enjoyed it. Louie Anderson kills me as the mom.

I'm 5 episodes deep in The Wire season 1. Such a great show! Still maintain it looks very old with all the pagers, and stuff. Reminds me of the early days of working for Ma-Bell. I started in 97 with a pager. We still have some payphones mounted in the central offices that look just like the ones in the show.

It starts around 02 so it was nearing the end of the pager era. I only gone from a pager to a cellphone a few months at that point myself.

I'm deep into the second season, and I have to say I love this show. I've only been watching it on my computer, but it looks like I can get it on demand through Directv too, so I think I will try to watch it on the TV now.

Season 2 starts a little odd. You get thrust into a whole new group of characters. Stick with it.

Notice the "game/scam/racket" of the blue color workers in the environment they grew up in and contrast that with drug dealers and the environment they grew up in, etc.

Just started orphan black. I heard it was good around the start of season 4 and tried to watch it at that time on TV. I didn't know what the berkeley was going on.

Much easier show to grasp starting fromthe beginning.

The Man In the High Tower is a really cool series based on the what if scenario of the axis powers losing the war. Pretty good stuff.

Up votes for Orphan Black and the Vikings as well.

I suppose I should figure out how to watch videos on Amazon Prime before TGT starts... I watched Orphan Black when it was on SyFy a few years ago. Unfortunately, SyFy's history of canceling shows just about when they are starting to get their legs has soured me on watching anything produced by that network.

I have been watching Strike Back lately. It is more action than anything else. Super secret counter terrorist unit versus terrorists. Kinda like Act of Valor, chase terrorist, get intel, chase terrorist, a little drama in between.

Not for kids, it has a decent amount of unnecessary nudity/sex and obviously violence.

I was living in downtown Baltimore before the Wire came out, and still spend a lot of time down there, as I live just outside the city limits. I frequently have to remind people from outside the area that the Wire is set in Baltimore but Baltimore is not the Wire. it could have been set in any larger city, and specifically in any city built up around blue collar jobs. But in Baltimore, the Wire dealt with a couple specific localized areas that really don't affect most of the city.

Loved the show, just don't get too caught up in the location.

Man in the High Castle is great. I'm in the second season now and the alternate universe aspect is getting very interesting.
