I know there are a few people on this board into sailboats as well. The America's Cup is being broadcast live on YouTube. Unfortunately, Luna Rosa is protesting this first race over safety concerns for the new hydro-foil system and how the rules were changed just a few weeks before the first race. But it wouldn't be the America's Cup without some controversy, would it...

The AC72 is a super fast boat. 30 knots in a 15 knot wind.
it can do 40 knots.. and I refuse to watch it. I would rather they go back to monohulls and slightly more accessable to the average man(country) There is a reason only 4 or 5 countries are participating.. the price tag on the AC72 is phenominal.
They also already killed one sailor when one of the boats "augered in" and he got trapped underwater
Coooooooool.
Sucker for a hydro-foil
Love or Hate Dennis Connor, glad he pushed the Multi-Hull envelope.
Good lord, those things are SO FAST.
We were just on KC87 last week, and it's trimmed to be a tourist race boat. Just a measly 10knts, in pretty strong winds in St. Maarten.
That thing is WAY faster.
(FWIW, you can also sail on Canada II, US55 and US56 there. It's a great tour)
Ok, so those are fast.
But so expensive that there are exactly 3 teams challenging and one defending.
It used to be that there were multiple defenders + a whole host of challengers. Even Australia had more than one defender in '87. Not as if this totally relevant, or has been, to the average sailor, but it seems to be rather out of hand now.
I really loved the 12m rule- let each team experiment with a lot of dimensions that were optimum for different conditions. Bring something like that back.
Suck it, beeeches. Three teams defending is three too many.

I concur. Going away from the monohulls kind of killed it for me. These new boats are like F1 cars for the water.

I completely agree with you. The america's cup has almost become a parody
