NMNA - - Hydroplane for $250.

Trailer not included, looks like it could slip into the back of a pickup.

Trying to help ....

I have a cousin who used to build those things. He claimed 7hp=25mph=Punishing Back Pain.

When I was a kid in the 1960s, one of my friends found one of those at the local dump.  He brought it home and put a 10hp outboard on it, the thing was really fast.  It also liked a sieve (which was probably why it was at the dump) so he pretty much had to bail as fast as he could with one hand while running the outboard with the other.  smiley

My friend's older brother built one with their father as a family project when I was in my early teens.  It looked like an absolute death trap even to my teenage self.  It apatrantly functioned but didn't last long as the hull cracked when he hit a big wake.  Nobody died though.

In my teen years I was the designated family boat driver,  a pretty quick step hydroplane being my favorite.

My brother brought a friend who had a similar to the above and wanted me to test drive it.  It was fast but unstable.

My test report.   Needs a fin.

My cousin's kids just built a couple of those. They're a riot.

All I can think of - ever tried kneeboarding? Even managed to catch the nose of a kneeboard? Your face hits the water so fast I believe it is actually proof of faster-than-light travel. Not sure I want to do that with a boat.

Come to think of it, those kids are the children of a family that used to go waterskiing on a tabletop that was a 4' disc of plywood. They'd put 3-4 people on it. Problem is, when you invariably catch the nose and everyone goes flying, the wooden disk shoots down to the depths of the lake...and returns on the same trajectory. The pre-flight briefing included instructions on going into the fetal position and covering your head until the table had returned. Interestingly, the parents of this family were a doctor and a nurse. At least two of the kids becamse doctors and nurses. The next generation is full of doctors and nurses.

Fun family. Maybe don't use their risk assessment criteria.

There used to be a big race on the "slough" by my house, 33-76 it was a huge event. Someone died in 76 and it got cancelled..... They just started running a section of it again a few years ago, not the full 13 miles.

We call those Sea Fleas. I had one with a  steering wheel and hand throttle. You kneel on a foam pad on the floor. Amazingly fast until you hit a wave and dig the nose in. You have a moment of “I can fly!” then comes the moment of “No I can’t “.

I built one for my kids. Started with a  7.5hp outboard then we ungraded to a 9.8hp. I found an older but really light 18hp Evinrude. I bolted it on and sent my daredevil child out for a test run. She came back in 15 minutes and just said “Dad you went too far again”.

The bestest part is it was a daughter.
