Cleaning out the new to me truck I found a IPhone. I think it I a 5 but could be a 6. I really don't know much about IPhones other than two of daughters have them and love them.

Anyway. The one I found looks to be in perfect condition. It really look new. So I plugged it in to my daughters IPhone charger and about half an hour later ot was getting kind of warm. It will not turn on. Called my daughter down and she tried and it would not turn on for her.

Any tricks to these things?

Hold power and home to force a reset.

If off, plug in charge cord while holding home to force into recovery mode.

I wouldn't plug into my computer until one of those two things happen.

Generally, I consider found items in a used car part of the purchase, but that's never been anything more than a whisk broom, ID card wallet, or an old cassingle. A smartphone is very personal and can be valuable. I can't preach morality, and I don't know that it's clear cut, but I'd give a thought to returning it to the seller of the car if appropriate. YMMV, and that's okay too.

My other daughter come over for pasta and I was just told it is a 6. Does that change anything?

I know the owner. I have texted him. He does not remember ever loosing the phone. It was down between the drivers seat and the center console. It is weird as the inside of the truck is nasty dirty. While this phone looks brand new. I am wondering if someone was in this truck at some point and lost it recently. The truck was sitting unlocked at my friends roofing company's yard where they park there other company vehicle's for a year before I got it. It does not look like the phone has been in there that long.

Is there an app of some sort that bricks a lost phone?

There's an app built into the phone that can deactivate it remotely, but I believe it brings something up on the screen talking about it being locked. It doesn't just make it unable to turn on.

Well I tried all the things but I don't have I tunes on any of my computers so I am stuck. I may take it to the iPhone store and see what they can tell me. It may belong to someone and they can return it or something.

I'm not much of an iphone guy but Google says the phone has been out since 2014. You could always try taking it to an apple store. I've heard they are super helpful.

It is not uncommon for people that steal E36 M3 from cars to drop E36 M3 they stole from other cars into another car they unlawfully entered. I'm not one to get all preachy either, but here in California (not sure where you are from) there is a law that just possessing stolen property can get you in luke warm, if not, hot water for possessing stolen property. Doing things like trying to sell, or appropriate for your use, make the possession of said stolen property a little more easy to discover and look a tad bit more suspicious. You might want to make sure it isn't stolen before trying to sell it or something.

I'd call the local smokies and see if they can run the serial number. At the very most they will take it and store it (in which instance you won't really be out anything). If no one claims it you can claim it after some some arbitrary number of days made up by someone more important than us. Then it can be yours worry free. If it was just lost or whatever, the original owner probably has a new one by now.

Other than that, even completely bricked phones that new are worth a half decent chunk to sell for parts.

Figured it out. It belongs to my friends brother. Texted him. He lost it a couple days after he purchased it and about a week be for the truck was parked.

Still weird that it wouldn't turn on, unless he remotely shut it down via an app.
