Even in the last 20 years, cars have grown quite a bit.
I have done some parking lot research and drafting over the years. Back in the late 70's I noticed that most spaces where 9' wide but then in the 80-90s they where reduced to 8' wide because cars had shrunk a lot. Nowadays they need to grow to 10' wide to accommodate the new wave of big as a whale SUVs.

That would be great!
So many parking lots today have spaces that preclude parking between the lines AND being able to open your door enough to get out without bumping the car adjacent.
