So this past week there was an online estate sale that was local and one of the lots was a Recaro seat with a second mounting bracket and slider and an SA1980 pyrotect helmet.
It seemed like a good enough deal... Even after auction fees the cost wasn't totally unreasonable.
After a quick wipe down the helmet makes for a nice decor piece
The seat vacuumed up nicely.
Now what went wrong? I was admittedly thinking when going through the bidding process that I could potentially trade the recaro for some bits for the challenge car and that the items traded for would then have the value of $26.62. Upon picking it up and finding the bolsters to be firm and only light treadwear at worst, with nothing close to being worn through, thoughts of trading it, possibly with some cash for some 4x100 15x8s or a B frame EFR came to mind, but then I made the mistake of sitting in it. It's supportive and aligns your body forward to focus on the task of driving on hand. Your limbs are positioned to be forward to the controls, not resting to the side until the next time they're needed. The headrest sits in a proper position so that you just know it's there and that your neck won't have the capability of snapping backwards should something come barreling into you from behind. I'm having very strong second thoughts. I've been pricing mounts and brackets for BG chassis instead.
Not a fail. Plans change, so roll with it?
It's not a piece of E36 M3. I see the problem.
Your first mistake was buying a classic recaro seat for less than $30. Now you just reap the benefits henceforth.
I too, miss the fail part of the story
Yeah, how is this a fail again? Nothing about buying a recaro seat in mint shape for $32 seems like a fail to me...

Maybe this will help or hurt but since the seat is not related to your Challenge build I believe you would have to FMV it to trade for anything related to your build. Now if say it came with an extra bolt and you used said bolt on your build then the lot would be related to your Challenge build and therefore you would be free to trade other parts of the lot like said seat for items. That said that's a cheap good seat for a Challenge build. I'd run it.
Now go on line and see what decent Recaro LSB seats are worth..........and check to see if yours is a real one or a knockoff.
Edit: I only suggest your verify it's real because if you use it in your car and it's a knockoff it might not protect you very well in an accident. Some of the knockoff stuff is pretty sketchy. If it's real it would be a nice addition to any car.
It would also make a nice chair to lounge in........
I want a seat like that for my racing sim chair. Maybe then I'd actually want to sit in it.

Well I wouldn't be using the brackets that came with it, as sadly I don't have a 78 911. But I'll probably need to trade them to get a BG chassis bracket.
I steam cleaned it after vacuuming it this afternoon, now I'm realizing all the furniture upholstery in the house that I really need to steam clean.

With current lumber prices, it's cheaper than making an Adirondack chair.

We all make poor choices in life.
Dunlop Aquaplanes work well under canoes ...
Hmm.... Could you buy $600 worth of parts and then trade them to yourself for the seat?

That would be a dangerous precident, as then anytime anyone were to get a killer deal on something, they could churn it on self trade to scrub for FMV parts. If I'm going to get a rule named after me it's going to either be more rediculous or more elegant.
I'm currently working on finding someone who wants the brackets and sliders that came with it as I have a plan to scrub the cost.of the $170 BG chassis bracket and slider once I do.

Drop me a note. I'm interested in that bracket.
