Never had Schnitzel, even though I have German heritage. It's always sounded good, but there's not very many German restaurants that specialize in it. There's one about 15 minutes from me, but I've never gone, mainly because the wife is scared of German food. I don't think she's ever had it.
Anyhoo, this is the place I'm going:Peotone Bierstube
My buddy has been there about 30 times, he raves about it.
Authentic German restaurants like that are really good. We have one downtown that I love going to whenever I can talk the wife into going back.
Don't sleep on the German Potato Salad!
Just make sure you sing the song...

Schnitzel is the shiznit. Actually, it's too good for a word like that, but I couldn't pass up the word sounds...
I like German food a lot.
Real German bratwurst is different from what I'm used to. It is still good, but not the same.
German food in general is good. Gravy and Spatzle? Delicious!
I do weinerschnitzel with bechamel now and then.
And sometimes I do chicken fried steak and cream gravy.

Will you people quit making me hungry? I'm already fat.
You guys are all goofy. The Germans are second only to the Brits when it comes to bad food.

Not at all. But they're both easy to do badly.
I love a good Cornish pasty, Yorkshire pudding, Sauerbraten, cabbage rolls...
Man, we were already trying to decide between the local British pub and Mexican place for dinner, and I'm developing a leaning... (though there's no wrong answer tonight)
Schnitzle actually just means "cutlet". It's the part before that makes a difference; pig cutlet, chicken cutlet, veal cutlet, etc. It is actually a pretty simple dish, and done right, very good. Its a safe staple when in Germany or an unknown German restaurant. Oh dang, now I am hungry.
I agree in terms of the Brits having the worst food but I’d put the Indians in second followed by the Germans.
On the other end of the spectrum, everything about Japanese food is right…the materials, the preparation, and the presentation is spot on. The Italians and French produce good tasting food as well but I’m not impressed as they just throw calories at the problem….kind of like how a Corvette is fast but I’m not impressed as they’re just throwing displacement and rubber at the problem.
That’s right, I go for the Miata of meals…highly satisfying without being gluttonous.
Properly done German food is a thing of beauty. Last week we had big batch of sauerkraut with smoked pork hocks, and bread dumplings. The next day I helped her make sauerkraut perogies (you can't believe how good these are because you've probably never had the real kraut), then the day after, reuben's with the leftover dumplings sliced thin and fried in the pan. Don't get me started on the Maultaschen
I had potatoes, schnitzel, and rohtkohl tonight. Delicious stuff. Going to my fathers house this weekend since my grandfather is in town and we will have potato pancakes.
When I was in Munich couple years ago I had a leg of boar and potato dumplings. I love german food
German food rocks. I love this time of year. Get to indulge in the German heritage!
I'm lucky to live near the 3rd best German restaurant in the country. The schnitzel there is pretty awesome; they really do it right, the food is pretty authentic. They also have a dish with two of each of their popular sausages and a healthy supply of red cabbage and mashed potatoes. Always a good atmosphere, too. I would love to partake more often...but it's so expensive....
When it comes down to it, nothing beats a schnitzel and a nice German bier.
So this is what I decided to get this evening. The Schnitzel Cordon Bleu. It was delicious. My friends got the more traditional Schnitzel, but this seemed to reach out to me.

I'm surprised by your placement of Indian food - IMHO is is very good if you like hot food. That said, I haven't found a good Indian restaurant here in the US that even compares to the Indian takeaway near my house in the UK (which was spectacular if you asked them to make the food as if they were cooking for their family), let alone some of the 'better' Indian restaurants.
Personally - even though I am German - I am not that fond of traditional German food. A lot of it is very heavy farmer/coal miner food and especially the Northern Geman cooking can be a little bland. Further south, it gets a little better mainly because they were influenced a lot by Northern Italy.
I was stunned by the quality of the food you can get in the Czech republic, and Austrian food is very good if you don't mind adding a couple of inches to your waistline every week.
However we are in complete agreement when it comes to Japanese cuisine .

You had to bring up Maultaschen, did you? Hailing from Southwestern Germany, that is the food I miss most. When I was a student the village butcher used to have freshly made Maultaschen twice a week. They were spectacular.
Got to dig up a recipe and make some soon, I think.

It's a lot of work. My wife only makes them if I help.
I'll throw this at you.
I have my own press, and my son will get one this Christmas.
I like British food (Cornish pasty, Yorkshire pudding, Meat pies plus the breakfast is great) and Indian food. German food is ok.

Ach! How did I fail to mention the breakfast!?

You hit the nail on the head, but it is a tough call as to whether Indian or British food is the worst. British food has no flavor and Indian food has this strange flavor. Which is worse? The after taste or no taste at all? Tough call.
