I bought a very cheap used Lenovo laptop, to use in the garage, and take to the track. Figure both of those are throw it away every couple of year use cases. I also wanted something with a bigger screen to run the TraqMate software.
All was going well, TraqMate software installs, connects to my unit, does all the typical data analysis stuff. Then I went to look at a GoPro video. 1080P / 30, 3GB file size. Runs fine on my Ipad. That's when it fell apart.
The audio will play correctly, but the video buffers / jumps all over the place. It will run in slow mo for a bit, and then skip to catch up, rinse and repeat. It's like it's buffering horribly.
I ran the Lenovo Detector thing, and it showed this device was original shipped as configured below. I know it's been messed with as, it has 8GB ram, and a 256 GB SSD in it currently.
- Intel Core i5-6200U Processor (2.30GHz)
- 4.0GB RAM
- 1x500GB SATA
- Windows 10 Pro 64
- 15.6in 1366*768
- Intel HD Graphics 520
- 720p HD Camera with MIC
- Fingerprint Reader
- TrackPoint with TouchPad
- Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 1X1 AC
- Bluetooth 4.0
- DVD Recordable
- 6 Cell Lithium-Ion
When I run device manager, it just shows a generic "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" under the Display Adapters, like it is missing the Intel HD Graphics card (presuming just a chip on motherboard).
If I boot to bios, there aren't really any display options other than 256MB or 512MB, and I've tried it both ways.
I've tried all the driver stuff I can think of.
Any thoughts from the more IT tech savy folks in the group?
Assuming you're running Windows, I would try to install Lenovo Commercial Vantage. That's their update tool and that checks both for missing BIOS updates and also for missing driver updates. If there is a specific driver for the graphics unit - and I would expect there to be one - Vantage should find it and offer to install it.
I usually use "Commercial Vantage" rather than the regular Vantage that's for consumer use, because commercial Vantage doesn't seem to try and sell me E36 M3. Both are available in the Windows Store.
Sounds like video drivers are missing, try installing the video driver package from the Lenovo website. Also try playing the video with VLC if you haven't already. Intel HD graphics is on-die with the CPU.
Edit: Commercial Vantage tool should do it for you.

Ran Commercial Vantage. Showed all drivers as up to date. Also ran the Hardware section. Everything Passed. Went to Advanced Options, and it recomended the Lenovo diagnostic solutions software. That software also only shows the Generic Microsoft Adapter.

Tried VLC, will open, and I can drag the bar across and progress the video (and see the screen change) but the video won't play. Just get audio.

Winner (by 6 year old IT standards)!!!!
None of the auto-driver stuff was working so I forced a manual install of the original Intel 520 drivers. That seemed to do the trick. Now my driving still looks like it's slow motion, but that is a different set of problems :-)
Thanks for the brainstorming!
I'd try installing the driver package manually next.
Edit: Ah, glad to see it worked

FWIW for the future, I've found that Snappy Driver Installer found things that Dell's own Command Update missed. It's an all around good updater with some handy features.
Im glad you got yours going though
