So, like Happy Andy, the copart article messed with my head. I went on the site to search for Wranglers and Mitas. What did I discover? That there is a location 20 minutes from my house.
I have a feeling I'm going to be in trouble.

I picked up and paid for a wrecked Moto Guzzi for my brother and it was almost $400.

The bike was $400 or the fees were $400?

Uh oh. I read that article, thought "I might be in trouble," and then fortunately forgot about it until I saw this thread.

On the bright side, still no internet at home which makes it easier to resist impulse weekend auction searches.

hi..my name is Al..and I've been Copart free for 365 days...fees hurt a little IIRC a 300$ purchase will have about 200$ in fees.. mind you its the same up to 1K so if the car was 999 it doesn't seem as bad as the low buck purchases..

Yeah, their fee structure seems a little rough. However, if you can get stuff cheap enough, it might not matter.

(Luckily?) In my state you cannot bid without a dealers license.

I believe that it's the same way here, at least that's the impression I got when I tried bidding on something a few years back. :(

I picked up a running Lancia Beta for $360 (before fees, was $768 after them) off Copart 5 or years ago. Dangerous fun site.

Don't tell Aussie, but I kinda want that.

I don't kinda want it, I definitely do! But I already have too many projects on my plate as it is, and it's a bit too far away.

too bad the sale ended, I'm reasonably close and would have stored it for you for free just so i could sit in the rumble seats everyday and make motor noises

Is there a way to see what cars sell for? Or can you just see upcoming auctions?

In reply to glueguy: That's a good question. I had a bunch of cars on my watch list, and they all disappeared when the auctions ended. Clearly it doesn't work the same as ebay. I hope that there is some way to track the prices without actually bidding.

you have to "join" the auction when it starts, search the item number you are watching and you can get an estimate as to when that will appear "on the block". I haven't found the way to see past prices of items sold.

You'll need to log in to post.
