Hey guys been a long while. Well life unfortunately got in the way again of well just about everything. From my father's dementia getting worse, to my mothers heart problems to losing a very good friend to cancer recently I have had my plate full of just about everything but the fun things in life. I will say that my fiance has been great over the last year helping all she could with basically everything falling apart and I do not know if I could have made it through all of this and kept my sanity without her.
I have also been out of work for a good long time and have had no luck finding a job and at the one interview I have gotten in the last 3 months I was told I was "over educated". On the plus side I finally have another interview this afternoon at a local body shop helping out around the shop prepping cars.
The Cutlass is still sitting in the shop mostly untouched since last year. We recently did quite a bit of work on the shop getting it cleaned up so work will continue soon, hopefully this week. We are now also working on making more room for SWMBO's "new" car, a 1959 Buick Invicta complete with its original 401 Nailhead motor.
Welcome back. Sorry you've had a rough go of it lately, but nice to see you are back in a fun spot.
I do believe we'll need pictures of that Buick!

You seriously got a 59 Buick!!?!?! I restored a 59 Electra with the 401! Let me know if you ever have any questions.
Sorry to hear about all of the other stuff, at least your fiance has been great. Good luck man.
Thanks guys. Yeah I couldn't believe the whole "over educated" thing but oh well. Hopefully the interview tonight will go well.
Oh yeah forgot the pics on the Invicta. This is actually the only pic I have of it at the moment. We have it all wrapped up to help keep the rain and snow out until we get it in the shop. This is actually my fiance's car, her brother had it she fell in love with it so when he got ready to sell we struck up a deal. I am building him an AR10 for the car. It has all the trim (some is sitting in the trunk) and it is fairly solid. The interior is way trashed but at least it is all there. The car actually runs and made the 30 mile drive home however it has some electrical gremlins that cause it to completely kill any battery hooked up to it to the point they will no longer hold a charge.

Nice! I really want to buy a 59 Buick one day, maybe a convertible. Here's the one I did:

I believe that's known as "tasty patina."
Javelin very nice Buick you did. Hopefully this one will turn out well, we are going to take our time with it and do it up right. It is kind of unreal sitting in the front seat with that huge wrap around windshield I can't wait to take the thing to the drive in.
Osterkraut the paint was actually better then that until a friend of her brother got the smart idea that they should start sanding on it to get it ready for paint...before they started on ANYTHING else or were even ready to start on it.
Welcome back! You've been missed. Sorry to hear of all the problems. I know the job field is a bit of a joke, fingers crossed!
That Buick is pretty sweet. Can't wait to watch the build come together vicariously via the internets. Should be fun :)
Hey Rebel,
Next time you get the over educated thing just tell them "Don't worry, I'll seem like I don't have a clue" and wait for their reaction.
As for the Buick, I think it's begging for a Riv GS 2-4bbl setup or an old 6-2bbl log manifold setup and some polished finned BUICK lettered valve covers. I think the valve covers are being reproduced now.
Back from the interview and he just hired a kid on Friday. He did say he might need someone else soon so he was going to hold onto my resume and let me know. He also asked if it was okay for him to pass on my resume to some other people he might know looking for someone. Better than a kick in the ass I guess.
He did ask why I would be interested in a shop job when its not what I was studying in school. I told him that basically I initially was planning to head back to Portland though I ended up with a house and fiance so I am staying in town now.
I will have to try and get her to setup an account here so she can do her own build thread for the car. If she isn't up for that I will be sure to keep you guys updated, it is going to be a long term project that is for sure. For Christmas one of her presents was all the original shop manuals for it
Welcome Back.
That Buick should be a beauty when she's done.

Welcome back!
That's my dad's car, wow! Remember riding in one like that called the "Green Witch" when I was a little kid.
You'll figure out the VS. threads, I promise.
I've never hear "over educated" but heard "over qualified" several times. That means they won't hire you because they think you will leave first good job offer you get. I bet the kid they hired won't work out.
I've also been told "we are filling this postion with a black female". So why did you call in a white male?

They called you in in that situation so they can cover their asses saying that they interviewed a diverse pool of people despite the fact that they were hiring specifically to keep the PC Nazis at bay by keep a "diverse" workforce.
It gets really ugly when they go too far with that.
I'm a white male. I'm also a minority two times over because of that here. I'm pretty sure we have people here that can't tie their shoes.

I went for an interview for an entry level mechanical engineering position straight out of college (from which I received a BSME degree), and was told I didn't have enough experience. They wanted someone with a co-op or internship in addition to entry level. Maddening.
Good luck, and welcome back!

If youre "over educated", and are applying for a job a step below where you were previously, its always a good idea to water down your resume...worked for me in the past
Gald to hear youre back Rebel...looking forward to updates on the olds. Keep your chin up. It will get better. Lost SWMBO's Grandfather to dimentia last fall, and my cousing to cancer a week ago. Time heals all and all that jazz.
Lesley that is funny that your dad had a car like this Buick. It is a cool old car that is for sure. Bringing it home we stopped at a gas station to run in and get a bottle of water. Came out with a cop standing next to the car. He asked about it, year, engine etc. Turns out he has a Chevelle that is in the local shows. I am sure he ran the plates though before we got out
4cyl. Sounds like you have had a rough time of it as well, sorry to hear man. The Olds hasn't had much done over the last year mostly the seats are out, popped the stuck hood thanks to a big ass screwdriver, then hood and trunk were removed.
I like the idea of dumbing down my resume. Maybe I will say I came to take care of my grandparents. That is not a total lie.
Tailoring your resume to a perticular job is good advice. Cool car and you will find something just keep at it.
isn't that Brad's car from Fast Times at Ridgemont High?
