True story : my buddy's dad was born and raised in Chicago. Mustache and dark brown glasses. Never lost the accent.
He was taking a business trip to Cleveland (?) by train. He made several single serving friends on the ride there. They start swapping stories about where they grew up. Buddy's dad gets around to his story. At the end, one of the guys says, "HOLY CRAP! Guys from Chicago really DO talk like the Super Fans!"

I’m told mine is a pretty thick Long Island accent. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fepgtXjFo7Q. When I was younger I helped a friend move to North Carolina and I stayed there for a bit and at night I’d drop him at work and use his van. He didn’t have a phone yet so towards the end of the night I’d go to a coffee shop, have a burger and wait for him to call me on the pay phone when he needed a ride home. After a couple nights of sitting around, getting a call and running out the waitress started getting nosey. I kept giving vague answers and on my way out she asked if I’d killed anyone. I said “not today” and headed out. I made it about a mile up the road before a sheriff stopped me and turned the van inside out on the side of the road for looking suspicious.
Well, between that, and the mobster that used to plow your driveway, I'm not surprised.
I don't live in Chicago, proper, but like it or not, I have a Chicago accent. We really do talk like the Super Fans.
I'm from da South.
South Joisey.
I always thought that was funny, even though I'm from North Jersey.

We don't have accents. YOU have an accent.
No, I don't have an accent, you both do!

They were talking on the radio yesterday about this. They were making fun of us, but somehow Chicagoans embraced it instead. Not that there was much embracing to do, that is how folks here talk.
I'm told by my Kentucky family that I sound like George Wendt. I don't think I have much if any of a Chicago accent at all (although I can turn it on if I want to), but I'll let others who have met me make that determination.
