The race was "IROC" style, so we all had identical new TFX chassis and 69 Z/28 bodies so that the difference was in driver skill and chassis setup.

Finally bought myself a Miata.

I know that they are small cars.  But this was a bit smaller than I expected.

There's a great spot about 35 minutes from me in Ashland called Modelville Hobby.

Well today they had a swap meet and since my son and I have been getting more into it (I have a few 1/64 scale cars and tracks already) we decided to go partake and shop.  This place is set up for 1/24 scale but Johnathan and I seem to prefer the 1/32.

Sorry for the abrupt ending but I'm having issuez posting and decided to try a multi-part post but couldn't even do that.

So basically what I wanted to get into with my post was to say we went shopping!

My son picked up this Audi R10:

I have a thing for British cars so I picked up this sweet Jaaaaag (channeling my inner Clarkson voice):

I got it for a bit less than he was asking.  wink

It also came with some sweet bits (which I know nothing about yet):

So now we're shopping for tracks and looking for info.  What do I need to know about 1/32 scale cars?  The guy that runs the hobby shop said 1/32 scale cars won't run right on his 1/24 scale track - any ideas why?  These are analog, that means we can't use a digital track, correct?

Thanks!

In reply to chknhwk :

1/32 cars run fine on 1/24 track unless the tracks run tire glue.  And no, analog cars will not run on digital track unless you upgrade the cars with the proper electronics.

And while there is a wealth of knoweldge here at GRM, may I suggest a dedicated slot car board?  I can?  Here you go.  Enjoy.

There are a number of us on the forum who have both 1/32 and 1/64 scale tracks and cars. I have the 1/32 track pictured below, and probably somewhere earlier on this thread. What brand is your son's Audi? Most 1/32 cars are cross compatible to other brands of track. I chose Scalextric because it is the narrowest. Carrera track is wide enough for 1/24 cars, with the equivalent floor space requirement upgrade. Carrera cars won't make the tightest radius on my track, they can be made to run on the next to tightest Scalex radius. One pic is the tight spot.

Nice!

Honestly I don't even know, I was pretty crammed for time, he said that's the one he wanted and he had the money so we got it.  I'll double check when I get home.

I just got back to this thread, If you have not yet discovered, Hornby is the parent company of Scalextric. So the Audi will run anywhere as built, but it is seriously obsolete internally for racing. Just like the real thing, slot cars have always been the "car of the week club" sometimes it takes a year, but that seems to be the upper limitsad. I maintain a fleet of visually antique small sports cars for guests to race, sometimes IROC style, every driver drives every car. One set shown below in their lanes as raced. WNRacing is Wednesday Night.

My local club had their 4th Annual Oregon Cup race this weekend. 30 racers from 3 states using identical TFX chassis. I did a full race report and interviewed all the winners.
