I was looking for something on here from years ago, and inadvertently found an old post of mine that I really liked. So I upvoted it. I upvoted my own post. It felt good.

I should throw away my phone considering that stupid act gave me so much dopamine.

One of my favorite activities is taking my wife's or daughters' knotted-up, tangled necklaces and straightening them.

I wouldn't say it's one of my favourite activities, but I'm that guy in the house. If anything is knotted or tangled they give it to me, and it does provide a satisfying sense of accomplishment.

Same here! I first noticed the calming effect un-birdnesting a fishing reel years ago.

Reply to all of you that are calmed, I would like to introduce my co-workers and ratchet straps. I am very much not calmed by unknotting anything at all.

I think my next car will be a Focus.

Difficulty: must be a reasonably rust free 4 lug wagon, with a Duratec engine (2.3 or 2.0 are fine) and automatic trans.

None of those are negotiable, though.

If this pans out, I expect it to be a weird process, because it will require driving 200-300+ miles south to buy, so I'd have to first convince them that yes, I want to buy their $3000 economy car long distance.

ZTWs aren't tooooooo hard to find, and automatics are like 97% of all the wagons they made. The ZTW gets you the 2.3. You put a call, well find you one.

I have an secondary interview with a company on Monday. My first interview was a one on one teams call that was scheduled for an hour, it lasted for 2.5 hours.  This follow up interview has 9 people from this company on the Teams invite, from peer level engineers to the VP of Engineering. I'm not worried about choking in front of directors and VPs, I've been in tougher situations with VPs of bigger companies. I'm genuinely curious how this interview is supposed to flow and if all of these people are actually going to be on this call.

Must have rocker panels, though.

Confession: a lot of this is so I can use my Compomotive gravel rally wheels that are made of nonbendium

My current job first face/face interview went well with VP Sales then the next Teams one tanked with a product manager that he ended after 15 minutes.

Got the job then found out the product manager was a drip with no personality and had nothing to say.  Thanks guys!

I'm always surprised when things I consider common knowledge, as they've been in the common lexicon for over a decade at a minimum, are like shiny brand new ideas to people.

I don't mean confusing kids with rotary phones or confusing adults with AR/VR experiences either.

Okay so I'm not alone here. I also noticed this with polishing boots. I guess because it's mindless yet productive. Mowing 7 acres, too.

Came here to say similar things.  I'm okay with dropping out of society and abandoning all hope of ever being anything close to cool. On the other hand, it is going to be "interesting" (read: every kind of terrifying) trying to raise a child in a world that I stopped understanding twenty years ago.

Just watched Major League for the first time in a while.  I'm officially now at a point in my life where I identify more with Jake Taylor's 'one more season in the sun' storyline than Rick Vaughn's wild thing story.

Another minor confession: I'm in negotiations to buy a building. A couple years of salary would help pay for it. Plus, I wanna buy more cars!

I saw Major League as soon as it hit HBO, so like 90, 91? I was 12. I've always identified with Jake Taylor.  I was old even when I wasn't.

You and me thrice.

I'm going to make retirement attempt #2 April 6. People keep asking, will we see you in the fall? I'm making no guarantees. If I can make some extra coin, I can buy whatever I want, whenever I want, completely guilt free. I have difficulty spending money. Not having to touch savings  while getting new bikes makes Mr. Peabody a very happy dog

When they show me this I can't say no

I just ordered a set of tires from The Tire Rack for a car that is not my daily driver (240Z).

Since I'm going to be headed to Fort Wayne that day I might as well stop in South Bend and have them mounted on my wheels.

This hobby costs money........I feel bad I yelled at my wife that she doesn't need new living room chairs.

Bob was acting weird yesterday evening.  He would just stand and stare at me.  Finally I thought maybe he has an upset stomach (a few times a week thing) so I took him on a walk and sure enough he ate grass but nothing came up.  I was at a loss.  This morning I figured out that I never feed him dinner because his food was still in the Suburban from our trip.  Poor dog has a E36 M3ty owner/feeder.

I decided to try my hand at making charcoal for another project.

In the oven

Good news, it worked.

House smells like a campfire. Other good news: wife isn't mad.

Short version, I won't be doing that again.

*edit for follow up:

wife can't be upset with any standing, since when she got home with the kids, her and 6yo proceeded to crack a can of sardines and waft that all over the place. So there's that.
