So I have a 63 mercury comet and so far I've only come up with one engine to put in it. That's a VR6 its a great sounding, looks good, and I can get a bell housing that bolts to a t5.
Anyone have any other suggestions? I wanna stay with a 6 or a 4.

What do you want to use it for?
Can you wedge a Ford 300-6 in there? Not nearly as modern as the VW, and a lot bigger... Could be kinda neat in a salt-flats-freght-train sort of way, though I'm not sure how that translates outside my head...
The 2.3 turbo four from a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe or Merkur seems like a good fit...
How 'bout averaging your preferred cylinder counts and going with a Volvo five-cyl? Aren't folks putting those in 2-series Volvos with manual transmissions these days?
I don't have any specific reason why any of these options is any better than the VR6...
Oops forgot to put its intended purpose. Its just gonna be for riding around and the occasional car show.
oh gor, you can bolt a t5 to a vr6? the 2.8, 3.2 or both?
I am of the highly serious opinion that the vr6 engine is one of the best things to ever come out of Germany.
I love them. ALOT.
and finding out there is a way to more easily convert one to rwd goodness made my day.
Why kill the value of a classic car with an oddball swap? Build up a proper small block Ford for cheaper than you could mess around with that VR6.
Why the hell do you want to put a 4 pot into a comet?
For that matter, why the hell do you want to put a VR6 into it?
If you want a 6, grab the 3.8 from a mustang. It's more than likely been done already and it's not like a 190hp Comet is going to feel slow.

All you have to do is get the bell housing and the Tuareg adapter plate from VW.

I really like 6s. I also just think a Turbo 4 would just be kinda awesome.
The the stock 260? Or whatever it is is just an ugly motor that intake upgrades cost more than the car.
In reply to mrhappy:
If it's the original 6, I think it's a 170. Which has all of 100 hp from the factory.
I thought about a turbo four back when I was looking at buying an old A body Chrysler or(god forbid) an Aspen or something. I figured a Valiant with a 2.4 from an SRT4 would be an absolute riot to own, but then I got to thinking about how well the 225 takes to boost and it stuck me as kinda pointless.
If I was going to do a newer 6 engine swap into something today, I'd do a Mustang v6 into a Ford, 3.9 Magnum into a Chrysler, and probably a 3800 or something similar into a Gm.
I mean, these are small cars, so it's not like they need a ton of power to be fun on the street.
I also just thought of a good motor swap, Focus SVT. That can be made rwd right?
If you wanted to put in a VR6 with a manual, why would you use a T-5 instead of a Toyota box? Seems the Acme adapter bell and something from a Supra would be better all-around. While you're at it, a 5MGE could be had with a distributor that would let you run a carb...
Why not the 2.0/2.3L Ford, or whatever it was in the Turbo Coupes?
