Are people seriously posting autopsy photos? I find it hard to believe they got anything but charred remains for one, but seriously? I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

That sucks. It's also a reminder that a passenger has a responsibility to himself and the driver to speak up if they think the situation is getting out of hand before something really bad happens.

One report said they HIT something in the road which caused the crash,while he wasn't a great actor he was a human and apparently a pretty good one so this really stinks.

What's even more baffling is- both of the people killed are quite skilled drivers. Paul Walker did most of his own stunt driving for the first few movies. Was also an avid racer.

I'm not saying that is what happened, but it's never wise to underestimate the skill needed to pilot a Carrera GT. It's a white knuckle experience, even at low speeds.

Exactly! I posted something like that, but even more P.C. on FB and there's some dood jumping down my throat "like you never speed on public streets" and all that. Chill out man. The driver (not him) was driving like an idiot. That happens. And yes, to me the most important thing is he didn't take out some hard-working dad on his way home to see his kids or something like that. Now before someone on here jumps on my back to say I'm a jerk or something, it sucks he died and it really sucks for his family.

Seeing as we are talking about a 90s LMP chassis here, I'd guess that impact was somewhere around 100mph sideways? So they must have been going faster than that, on a surface street.

Looks like the accident happened about a mile from the shop they co-owned. I guess they went for a joyride around the loop. I saw one report say another driver saw it happen after the car blew past them almost hitting them. You would've hoped that there was better judgement to keep it reasonable on city streets.

Until reading about his death, I didn't know he was a racer and did a bunch of charity work. Too bad, looks like he was pretty cool.

edit: Come to think of it, you never really heard much about him in the 'tabloid press' or whatever. Seemed to stay out of the Hollywood drama/scandal crap. Good for him. Too bad we don't reflect on, or even realize such things until it's too late.

I never liked his acting- I truly felt it was one of the worst parts of the FF franchise. HOWEVER- there's no doubt he was a real car person- he actually owned the R34 from the second one- he bought it before the movie was made, IIRC.... it WAS the r34 that most people knew as "the Blackbird"... at least in the sport compact scene.

I have to shake my head at a few of the comments on here that seem to be praising his movies, where he was a car guy, blah, blah, blah. His crappy movies put the car hobby back about 20 years, gave rise to a whole new generation of immature millennials who think cold air intakes and fart cans make their cars hot rods. Worse yet, his movies made everyone of these dumb a$$ punks with pink wheels and neon lights think that they were good drivers. I see the fast and the furious crowd everyday usually driving like, well, like someone thats about to hit a tree.

My criticism is of his awful movies, not of the person himself, I'm sure he was a nice guy judging from his apparent sincere interest in charity work.

The movies are good popcorn fun. It might have created a whole raft of brotatoes- but some of them have been rescued. I might be a mullet wearer if not for them, TBH. I bought my first turbo car when I learned as a result of watching these movies and doing research, that turbo 4 bangers are awesome. Not everyone believes the gospel of 2 Big Bottles Chapter 10.1. Hard to argue with that. Exposure is often the start. And saying he wasn't a car guy is pure misinformation. The movies are massively inaccurate, but he really WAS a car guy. I think without the movies- we would still be imitating BTCC cars, and not have people chasing 10 second quarters, as it were. Good or bad, they helped the hobby IMO.

Yep, but they went SO FAR OUTSIDE that whole mess, that people started lashing back and building less "ostentatious" cars.

Consider that the first movie is 12 years old now, and less "ostentatious" cars are a more recent trend.

while it's never a good thing when someone dies like that, i'm having a hard time caring.. not a fan of those movies, never seen him in any other movies, and he was so far out of my monkeysphere that it's impossible to bring myself to really care about it one way or another.

ultimately, they were just two more in the 30+ thousand people that die on the roads every year, and honestly it's not more important to me than the uncle i lost monday night to a random stabbing attack in a California city that had no murders since 2003 and has now had 3 unsolved random stabbing deaths in the last 3 months..
