MSN.com: Pink Floyd Sells Music Catalog for Nine-Figure Payday

While $400 million is an eye-watering sum, it’s not even half of the $1.2 billion the company shelled out to acquire Queen’s catalog.

Good for them but I'm not looking forward to seeing their songs in commercials.

Can't wait to hear Comfortably Numb in a Tylenol PM commercial.

I mean, good for them for seeing the fruits of their talent pay off big time, but I'm not looking forward to commerce being kind to their catalog from here on.

I am not sure I have ever heard a PF song in a movie, I think they could be really interesting for that (if done appropriately of course).

For commercials though... argh...

I am also a bit curious if their main audience is a bit out of the prime demo.  Queen is almost as old but is a bit more of a general pop style.

Yep, I haven't done acid since high school. And that was like 26 years ago?

Pink Floyd made an entire movie. There were songs in it.

Oooo my favorite!  Only popular song Iknow of in 7/4 time (except for the guitar solo and the ending), and Dick Parry (I think)'s sax solo is perfect!

In reply to Jim Pettengill :

Rush used all sorts of weird time signatures, and I think Sting used 7/8 in something as well. But that 7/4 (or 7/8) in Money just propels so well.

I'm not sure how much Floyd we'll hear in commercials. It's just not well suited for it. No short catchy hooks and lots of dark lyrics. Another Brick, maybe.

With recreational and medicinal marijuana getting more and more real, ...you know which song to use.

Other cool songs in 7/4

Alice in Chains - Them Bones
Soundgarden - Spoonman
Led Zeppelin - The Ocean (This is one of my all-time favorite songs. And I love that you can hear the squeak of his kick pedal.)

I played drums (self-taught) from about 4 until 20. Never really learned to count to time, I can recognize it's not 4/4, but not good at counting it out. I had to use the Googles to find those up there, while looking for another song, this popped up for some crazy stuff.

"The time signature for "The Art of Dying" by Gojira alternates between 24/16 and 21/16:

  • 24/16: 5+5+5+3+3+3/16
  • 21/16: 5+5+5+3+3/16, with the last 3/16 group missing from the second half

The main drum pattern ends with a bar of 6/4 to resolve the pattern."

Fun fact.

Almost every Meshuggah song is 4/4.

All the crazy stuff he does with his feet and then the guitars playing weird stuff over the top. That said, I love Meshuggah.
