I had to put two of my dogs down in the last 4 months, just another voice saying you did the right thing. I truely love the house calls bit. I wish we could have done that. Bless you both for loving him enough to share his life, and for loving him enough to not let him suffer.

My girlfriend saw this thread and wanted to thank everyone for your support. Thanks guys.
We've been gathering pictures of Smudge to remember him. Here's one for you folks:
My cat Tom died about a week and a half ago, I've had him since I was 8 (I'm almost 22 now). He died two days before I went home to visit, but I'll always remember what a good ol' cat he was. My thoughts are with you.
my deepest condolences, I care more for cats than i do most people. I would offer you up my one cat, but all she does is ignore the litter box and leave hair balls every where.
Sorry to hear about your kitty. I've grown more attached to our in the past month, since we lost the pooch. I'm looking at another dog (every cat needs a dog to play with, and vice versa).
Man, I'm sorry to hear this guys. My buddy Binky gets an extra good chin scratch tonight.

Sorry to hear it. We have a really old one with a heart mumer and showing early signs of kidney failure, so are trying to prepare ourselves.
I guess I'm the only one who doesn't like cats

Your not the only one. I'm not a fan, but I can empathize with someone having to put down a pet.

Ive got a theory about guys who like cats, and guys that like dogs...
Dog guys are (often, but not always) the kind of people who need more validation from others, whereas cat guys dont need as much.
True in your case?
Its weird in mine, cause I definitely need some validation from outside sources, but Im a cat guy. My cats are very doglike though.

I didn't used to be much of a cat person. Smudge won me over. It helped a lot that I was somehow not allergic to him.
It was his "blessing" me when I'd lie in bed on weekend mornings. He would stick his little paw out, hovering half an inch above my nose and set it down gently upon my face, as though he were the Pope. Then he'd shove his face as far into my arm pit as he could and purr. He didn't spaz out and dart around the apartment. Only once did he attack my foot while I slept.
I'm definitely a "dog guy" but I really loved that cat.
As a special bonus, the water pump died in the Integra on the way home to pick up kitty yesterday, so we had to postpone it until this morning. Ugh.
