I came across some drawings that I did when in veterinary school. My first career was training standardbred race horses, and my dad was a classically trained portrait painter who specialized in horses and horsemen and women.
These were for study purposes, I also gave copies to one of the large animal professors to use in teaching or for publication. I'll post a couple of them.

Yes, free handed. The skeletal anatomy is really interesting to compare to our own.
The lower limbs are completely devoid of any muscle. Instead there are powerful ligaments that function as springs.
