Anybody suffer with Raynaud's?  It just started for me, my fingers turn pale white when cold and then tingle something awful.  I lose all feeling in them and they feel numb.  Very uncomfortable.  Then when they start to warm up, man o man they hurt.  Turn purple then red as the blood flows again.  Like the nerves are waking up and tingling something awful.

This was after 15 minutes in an unheated garage wearing leather gloves.

Dealt with it all my life. Sometimes it's better than others. Just make sure they don't stay white too long. You're looks a little more extreme than mine. Mine cycle back without such an extreme purple and with less pain. It still feels like being poked by a E36 M3-ton of needles.

I hear ED medication works, but I don't need to walk around tenting all day. I believe a certain artist here was able to make some suggestions on what compression clothing works best for her.

Yikes!

That stinks.  I notice that I can't tolerate cold like I used to, but I guess I'm doing pretty well.

Hope you can find some relief.  Gonna get colder before it gets warmer.

Yes, that is an excellent descriptor of the feeling.  I am learning to layer clothes to keep my core warm but I guess I need to start wearing gloves more.  I have lost 87 pounds the past year doing weight watchers (260 lb to 173 lb so far) so I am feeling the cold more now also.

I think I remember reading a study in some journal that Beetroot juice (aka beet juice) helps - which would make sense, as it improves peripheral blood flow. May be worth a try.

No, but from the sounds of it, that's very good news for me. Sorry you are dealing with that!

So I just did a search of GRM and there are some past posts on Raynaud's.  Sorry for starting a new one, but this is new for me.  Heated steering wheel would be awesome right about now as I have a 45 minute commute.  Last night, my left hand middle finger was white from holding the steering wheel.

I have this too. Heated steering wheels are awesome, and did help, but cost $$$. My current daily driver doesn't have one. I usually just wear gloves and hold my hands in fists or sit on one hand at a time to help keep my fingers warm.

My wife is a doctor and has suggested increasing folic acid intake (either supplemental or through more leafy greens) may help.

All the reference to raynauds were probably me. I keep mechanix gloves with me pretty much constantly. Although they aren't the warmest, I'll wear them in the mornings when I drive. It's about 40 min drive to work. When it gets colder, I'll wear leather gloves. I'm also that freak at the hockey game wearing a glove to hold my beer.

one of my co-workers has it. no matter how often he tells our boss that he has a hard time working in the cold because of it, if we have something to do out of doors, he gets sent out to do it.

I think this is what my wife and her mother deal with.

My wife is currently seeing a rheumetologist(?) to see what all she can do/take to help slow it down.

No offense, but from reading your posts, your boss sounds like A) a window-licking moron; B) a complete douchebag, or C) all of the above.

My wife has it, though I’ve never seen her fingers get that bad. Migraines are the worst problem for her though. Ultimately her Raynaud’s is one of the main reasons we moved from IL to the coast, and fortunately her symptoms have been far more mild since we moved. .

You guys sound like ideal users for the new heated gloves.  Has anybody tried them?  They're a bit pricey, but if they could head off the symptoms you're describing, I'd call it a bargain.

Yes, my son played high school lacrosse.  They started the season in March, so these were very much needed while watching him play.  I can see their helpful while just sitting and holding them in my hand, but won't work while I am working.  Guess I could keep them on standby and slide them in to warm up the fingers durning a break.

I had a pair of hunting mittens that were my dad's when he was a teenager that had a pocket for those. I'm betting you could find gloves or mittens nowadays that do. Yup, $16 and change from Amazon, official hot hands brand

Does Milwaukee have gloves to go with their heated jacket?

I used to suffer from this until I moved to Florida. It happened a lot while riding my motorcycle, gloves or not.
I used to get home and put my fingers under warm water. It hurt like pins and needles but it was the fastest way to get the blood flowing and the color back.

A couple of years ago I was riding a motorcycle through Norway and Sweden and I was reminded of it again. The heated grips helped up to a point, but it was quite cold and I still got it a few times while riding at night.

I guess my only suggestion is to move to Florida, lol.

Q&D idea is to take a couple bottles of Poland spring water. The small ones that sell for 99 cents. Take about 1/3 of the water out and the squares out all the air and put the cap back on. Heat in microwave. Just be carful not to boil it. Wrap one on a warm towel and put on drivers seat keep the second handy while driving. Should get you a half hour of heat or more. Hopefully by then the cars heat will help you out.

I use to do this as my hands hate the cold. Nothing like the above photos. Mine is caused by multiple ingerys to my fingers over the years.

Yes, and the annoying thing is that it doesn't seem to be related to how cold my hands are, but how cold my face is.  Or at least, warming up my hands does nothing once it starts.

It's generally the last joint on my middle finger, which makes it really hard to talk.

I have done that, except I put them in my jacket pockets

I did some work in this area a few years ago. For when gloves aren't enough, the heaters do help a lot. Most people also forget making sure the rest of their body (core) is warm otherwise the same triggers can happen. Someone mentioned above that their face getting cold can trigger it as well. From what I remember that is a more rare/severe reaction, but if you can find the triggers and prevent them it goes a long way to trying to maintain some comfort/lack of pain.
