Tangentially related..

If you're looking for a good family friendly TV series (okay maybe PG13) check out the BBC show "the detectorists" on Amazon Prime. You can also find the last season on Roku channel

Will have to look into Roku channel... Netflix doesn't have season 3. I agree, it's a pretty good watch if you don't mind British humour.

I enjoy British humor and was glad to find Season 3 on there, no extra cost.

They knocked down a house built in the 1940s close to me, and have no plans of building on the lot in the near future. I tried to negotiate for some of the longer pieces of vintage wood, but the demo crew were putting them onto a trailer for themselves.

Anyhow, I'm thinking it might be worth a trip up there with the metal detector, especially around where the garage and shed used to be.

My dad has a Fisher (I forget the model) that he bought in the late 90s when his wedding band slipped off his finger while playing frisbee at a beach off the coast of Barcelona. He was determined to find it, no matter what. Four weeks later, the detector arrived and we once again made the road trip to Spain.

Some time into the trip, on a Wednesday, I saw him look over at me with a grin on his face; he found his wedding band. On top of other rings, watches, coins, etc., it opened up a door into a new hobby for both of us. We'd take turns wading in the water with a lead belt on to keep us below the surface in contact with the ground, with only our snorkels visible above water.

I haven't really done any metal detecting anywhere else other than underwater at the beach and on the beach itself. We've got jars full of the things we've found.

My only worry is since they literally tore the structures down, there are going to be a LOT of nails and stuff. I'm thinking that equipping one or more of the spawn with magnetic sweepers might be a good warmup exercise.

It would also be a good place for me to practice the iron discrimination feature on the AT Pro. I haven't played around much with that. Either way I'm down, sounds like a cool spot.

Spring 2021. Anyone been out detecting yet?

I'm thinking about jumping in, like I need a new hobby.

Garret AT series looks like the go-to detector here and the better YT metal detectors.

Weren't there more metal detecting threads here?, I can't seem to find them in search.

Haven't been out yet but a friend called me Friday because his bride had lost her wedding band.  She thought she'd lost it in a spot where she was clearing out leaves and pine straw from a flower bed approx 2 ft x 15 ft.  We searched it thoroughly and found a few rusted matchbox cars but no ring.  After going over the flower bed plus the litter she'd removed for over an hour, she mentioned that maybe she'd left the ring at a friends' house.

Wasted time so far as the ring goes but it was nice to see them again since we haven't seen each other in over a year.

I haven't been out yet, but y'all made me buy one.

I can't afford the Garrett these days, but I got a knock-off pinpointer model to see how it does.  Amazon one-day deal for $84 down from $124.

Might suck, might rock.
